Haddock Hunt

I've had 1 in 2010 and my mate had 1 last year, both just off Whitley Bay, not far out at all really.

Would love to get out this weekend but the tides are too early / late for getting out in daylight. :( Might try Sunday about 7am if the sea is nice enough, would only get about 2 hours out but better than nothing! :D

Good luck to all who make it out, looking forward to seeing some reports.

I'm guessing it's still a case of drifting over this muddy ground? I was talking to a lad who crews on a prawn trawler out of Blyth , he was telling me they trawl the mud around xxxxx for prawns and catch cod and flatties at the same time, not many mind, but he never mentioned haddock, or I'd have been a bit more interested in where they were fishing :D

ive had a couple of haddocks this year, all smaller than 2lb, they were taken on hard flat bottom. if you want haddocks then your best bet is softer ground around wrecks. When we used to trawl 10 years ago we had best success on the outskirts of wrecks, same as monk fish.

Are you going to give it a go for them this weekend Arthur, for old-times sake?

I’ve had plenty of scotch haddock but the last real one I had was off a boat in Arran many years ago. They fell to clam baits.

Hi Kev1n, Don't think so. I'll be fishing the Amble open on Sunday, and was fishing the Tynemouth retired members comp today on the pier, so that's my brownie points all used up till the next batch issued.

was out with Dave Armstrong fishing from his boat Top Cat a few year ago bringing haddock in four at a time on hokkais, best about 4lb.

Got one nearly 3 lb on a blue shad fishing on famous from hartlepool in july.Thought it was another codling but i was over the moon when it surfaced and i seen it was a haddock. The skipper said a few had been caught but that was a good sized one, tasted great in bread crumbs.

We had more haddock on the famous last year then I have seen in a lot of years, used to fish for them years ago with tommy scorer down at souter with good results

We tend to target haddock more in summer in the whitby charter skippers summer festival if you fish for them we have had 60 or 70 haddock in a few hours i fish a wreck quite few miles off whitby in the soft ground its alive with them in summer.
