Have We Forgot The Spirit Of NESA?

Nice post Ian,

I cant help but feel that a hell of a lot of the conflict on this forum is football related. Looking back on banned members for example, since I joined, they have all been banned because of football related "banter" ...save one maybe

I think the site is still fine personally, good info on catches and shots, just because there's some people on here that like arguments etc doesn't mean it's going downhill. More members equals more fishing info but also more conflict. Just ignore the posts if it's disturbing.

Great post Ian, you should reinstate it.

I agree this place just isn't as friendly as it used to be.

Maybe that's down to the membership increase, or maybe the lack of previous admins like Jim or Tony who devoted a lot of time to the site and organised events.

It's still spot on.....

A small element of people seriously pull it down with a lot of nonsense threads, leading to arguments over idiotic comments, sometimes i think they just want an argument, so they get the lap top out and annoy people from the comfort of home..

me, i just read them and giggle at the nonsense.....:D

If t was me I would start to kick people who cause issues.... Some of these posts run far too long before being deleted etc. people behave like fools, kick em.

I have been a member for just over a year and found some of the most friendliest, helpful people you could wish for who are willing to give help, advice and possessions for free in most cases.

I have learnt a massive amount about boats and boat fishing which you simply can't get from a book.

Has the spirit gone, I can't really comment on what it was like before I joined but if it has it must have been a terrific forum if this is what is left.

As others have said there are (were) a few wind up merchants who liked nothing better than to try and get peoples backs up from behind a pc screen and resort to name calling or personal insults. I don't know whether banning them all is the answer (some certainly deserve it) as then you get into the realms of the 'thought police' with members frightened to speak their mind.

Just laugh it off and enjoy the crack :D:D:D

There's a difference though between " a bit of banter" and having a laugh. When the banter turns personal and people start threatening each other it really is a bit sad.

The comments the other day went too far, and a couple of us even replied to Davey saying come on mate delete that comment etc.

Although its not my site and has nowt to do with me. One idea I've seen on other forum is people get a weeks ban or a month depending on the severity. Repeat offenders get longer or permanent. Don't know if this is an idea that could be used here?

Good idea and it might work giving people time to cool off and think about what has been said.

One thing I find amazing (and this is not knocking the great job the moderators do) is that we are never told that a member has been banned and why. If we are to learn from people's mistakes surely we should know what mistakes they have made

Additionally I have had a couple of posts removed but never told why. How can I stop posting offensive posts if I am never told what is wrong with them???

A simple email to the offending person informing them their behaviour, attitude or words are wrong and why it is wrong can't be too difficult? That might stop some of these war of words getting out of control and members getting banned

Read the rules it states in there what can't be said or done

this info may have helped?

some members may be still here if they did the following

"Dealing with Troublesome Users
Can I block posts, emails and messages from specific users?

If there are particular members that bother you and you do not want to see their posts or receive Private Messages and Emails from them, then you can add these members to your 'Ignore List'. There are several ways to do this:

Through your User Control Panel: User CP, Settings & Options, Edit Ignore List. Then, type their name into the empty text box and click 'Okay'."

benefit of the doubt for a short while. Don't like banning folks, but has to be done sometimes. If mods were quick to pull the trigger there'd be even more complaints, so we let it go for a while, see if the user can pull themselves back then they are gone if they don't. It's not easy finding a happy medium

some of us have been here 14/15 years or more. Seen more hassles, and had to ban more people in the last year than all the previous years together. the first 10 years probably saw maybe only one person banned that I can remember. maybe 2.

I don't think naming/shaming banned people by publishing the who's and why's is very productive and doesn't achieve anything except open a debate as to the reasons and probably see the whole thing brought back to the boil. So they go, thats an end to it.

Not long ago after several were shown the door, someone started a thread immediately as to the why/wherfores. The original arguement started again in that thread and resulted in someone else going the journey

I saw more reported post emails and PM'd complaints about the last particular one than any previously. I did stick a thread up last year trying to be lighthearted, the old yellow card red card mallarkey. made no difference

give an eejit enough rope they will still hang themselves

Spirit of NESA is very much alive and well. Its a 2 way street though. You only get out, what you put in.
