Helping fellow anglers...

I've always been one to help out fellow anglers, but as someone who cut his angling teeth in the days before the advent of the internet, I've always been of the belief that you should get out there and try places yourself if possible. If ever I've asked people for information when going further afield, I've always thought that you should be polite and courteous.

Which brings me to the reason I'm writing this. A couple of days after I posted the report on Druridge (where I basically just put the gear in the car and went), I got this pm. This is it word for word....

what part of duridge were you fishing directions please
So, because he's asked so nice, I'll post the answer on here....

I was fishing the sandy bit, with the sea in front of me. As for directions, follow this link...

There's been some strange posters on here recently. I put it down to them writing from a padded cell somewhere.

With The Country Being Overun With Generations Of The Same Families of Ar*eholes You Can't Expect Good Manners To Come Naturaly As You Might Wish Or Hope For. Hence The State Of What Seems Every Fishing Spot Known.

Good link :).
But i agree, when did going to have a look and figure it out for yourself die.
Ok if you get stuck then ask but at least try

ouch, pleased it wasn't me who pm'd you, feel like that myself quite often, seems as if manners are no longer taught in school

i cant realy see whats wrong with it myself? he said please and he was just asking a simple question which could be answered with a simple response

Nice one mate. I've been fishing 30 years and in that time I've been shown exactly 3 marks from others. You just have to get out there and fish the different places. If you have transports travel as far North as eyemouth and work your way back, different marks produce different fish in varying conditions. There are far to many to mention. If people are really stuck like you said Google it!! they even have aerial maps on this new fangled interweb thingy!

:D

Mind you the link was good! :)

when i was a kid [many moons ago ]i was still taught manners from my parents, being a kid is no excuse for the lack of manners , maybe that's what is wrong with our society,

your right but the message was just asking were were you fishing and directions please... its not the best of manners but i cant see how somone could be so afended to take the p*ss out of somone for it by humiliating them so hundreds could see it, im sure he/she would of said thanks for any info you give them...

Not taking the p*ss at all, just showing the respect his PM deserves.

And judging from his previous posts, he's not a kid.

I don't agree with humiliation and the majority of kids are polite - unfortunately you are anonymous over the internet and you don't know exactly who you are giving directions to.

Besides if they are serious why don't join a club, fish with someone more experienced or ask nicely to meet someone at a mutually agreed known spot first to fish, no harm in that kind of help is there. Then when they know they're not little toe rags tell them where the better places are to fish.

I've taken my 4yr old son fishing for the first time this year and the behaviour of a few kids spoiled it, I had to bring him home early because of the swearing and unacceptable behaviour they were demonstrating.

On the plus side at least he caught his first fish ever using a poundland rod and reel with some 6lb line, a size 1/0 hook and a bubble float. His prize was a 3/4lb coalie which he duly kissed and returned safely!

He could be a foreigner or just not very literate? Im not trying to play devils advocate or anything but I just think its harsh myself to mock him. In fact reading what he said again it would appear he has missed a question mark before asking for directions. He also spelt Druridge wrong which I think means he should be given the benefit of the doubt.

I must say I agree with this somewhat. At first I thought, yes, its damned impolite. But then I remembered, a couple of years back I got some messages on a potholing forum I am a member of and this guy wanted info on some caves. The tone of the messages was very similar to the one Davyred got, possibly worse. Eventually I met up with the guy to do this underground trip and he was actually a really nice kid, nothing like his PM suggested.

Maybe some folk just aren't too good at expressing themselves when writing. I guess its hard to really suss out someone via the internet.

maybe he could of asked in a bit better way or put it another way this is a forum and you are going to get pm's like that if ya dont like the question dont answer it.

If i got a pm like that i would just answer it properly but thats me.

Is this a friendly and helpfull site????????????? you get this quite a bit on this site why.?????????????????????????????

someone asks a question and they get slaughtered for it.

i agree totally,i was just responding to one or two of the posts that said it could have been a kid that posted the reply,as if that excused him/her from being polite simply because he or she is a kid,and if it was an adult who posted the reply it really wasn't that offensive at all.imo.
