Id or Billies

sorry i carnt comment on either never tryed them but im sure one or the other do sell quality bait while other hasnt vice versa

lsat time i got bait from i.d the lug were tiny all about 2 inches long. total waste of money.seems hes made his cash now and isnt bothered about his customers anymore, i just get a cold welcome when i go to that tackle shop.

Dont want to start a punch up but i dont like
the 2 shops as i think you have to be "one of the clik"
to get some hellp from them or if you are spending
more than a weeks wage might just be me:exclam:

when i was about 15 i used to go to i.d all the time, the bait i got was always crap yet when i watched them serving their mates before me they were getting quality bait  and also when i used to ask them for advice it was like getting blood out of a stone yet they'd stand for a good hour talking to their pals:mad:. after the service i recieved from them i started to go to billys and i cant fault the guy, his bait is always spot on, he'll always find time for a chat etc. he gets all my custom now and in the last year ive spent over £600 in his shop. i.d will never get another penny out of me.

can get a few too many hangers on in both sometimes, but I've never had any problems with bait from billies, ID does seem a bit cold unless you're one of the gang

if all else fails just go to frasers!

It boils my P**S threads like this its got nothing to do with "made his cash" he sells what the diggers get and the diggers are efected by the tides what worm there get. Before you buy them ask to look at the worm if no good then say no thanks:rolleyes:

Well i agree with Mark, both shops, probally like all the rest have there hangers on, both Billy and John are both very nice blokes, and i have found very helpfull if you need advice on tackle etc.....i dont tend to get in either very often as i dont need any more tackle, but when i do i am allways made to feel welcome....i dont have a problem with either of them keeping the best bait for there regulars and mates, we would all do the same thing if we were honoust.
I have been in both shops on different occasions and witnessed customers coming in to look at different items then to say they wanted to see that item before they ordered it from tinternet....thats just not on !!!!!

If a shop owner had half a shred of decency then he wouldn't sell crap worm. Diggers would try harder to find better worms and leave the small stuff to grow if the tackle shops refused to take them. Some tackle shop owners are only out to make the money and have no love of the sport. I for one would have no trouble paying a bit extra for better worms if I was relying on a shop.

The 'click' does and always will exist not just in shops but in a lot of clubs too! What do you do about it though? Put your head down? Accept it? Or do you make yourself heard and make yourself some good friends in the process?

Back to the original question, I have never bought from either so I am in no position to comment, however, I do agree with Mark's comment. Frazers bait is normally good and I like how the bait is displayed so you can see what you're buying, unlike most tackle shops who wrap up their crap in newspaper so you can't see how crap it is till you've left.

been to both over the years but its frazers for me never noticed a click with them you get the best on offer , cheers jamcod

Well in the case of both the original tackle shops mentioned the owners don't fall into the catagory of not loving their sport, Billy untill he suffered ill health loved his fishing and John is one of the countrys leading match anglers, dont know or have any experience regarding the lads at frazers but have heard good reports....like all of them it depends on who you talk to. Lets hope they can all get through these difficult hard times, would be a shame to loose any of our local tackle shops

Used to dig myself for the shops a long long time ago, when bulmer worm used to command 7/8 quid per hundred, but we used to go further afield to get better worm which we sold for 10£ a 100,however small tides and rough seas used to restrict us all to digging for the smaller worm,i know the majority of shops pride themselves on the quality of the bait, but sometimes it is in the hands of the guys who supply them ,surely it is better to have some worm than none, but i can agree that when you go to buy bait and all you get is very small bait it is frustrating, all i can say is try and sort a better deal with the owner allthough i doubt he has received a dscount off the diggers as anybody who has managed to dig 5/600 worm in a session big or small, will be reluctant to discount:red::red::red:

Don't go

Don't go

I have had a few issues with Id and have refused to use that shop since 1996. It all boils down to this, if you have a problem with anything at all that you have bought from any shop have them address it. In the event this is'nt done to your satisfaction tell them to shove it "like i did" and spend your hard earned elsewhere SIMPLE AS THAT!

I have never used either of these shops but i did have a problem with one local to me.
Following on from a thread i posted on here about that shop i vowed never to return and i never have,i go elsewhere for my bait and other fishing needs.
Of course that also means that my cash is spent elsewhere to.
Anyone who is not happy with the goods and/or the service they are getting from their local shop then i suggest they do the same.
But don't just judge on a few visits, everyone can have bad day or some crappy bait, give then a fair chance.
But at the end of the day your cash is yours to spend where you want.

I`ve not used billy`s,but have used I.D for years, never really had any problem. One thing i can say is when i`ve ordered lug and went to the shop for it John has told me prior to making the order up if it`s small.Alway`s had good service from them so i dont mind spending in there.Dont really notice who`s in the shop as im like a kid in a sweet shop..

i was asked a question so you got my answer, why pay top money for useless worm? i had to put a full bag of lug on me hook to make a decent cod bait! thats not on in my opinion. shouldnt sell poor small bait, then give the quality stuff to mates. it does happen and we all know it. if you say we should look at the bait and refuse it if its no good, then so should the tackle dealers who buy it from the diggers!.

I used to use ID all the time when he was on Chillingham Rd and John would put himself out every time I came up for the weekend or he'd drop bait off at my mams. Couldn't fault him. Whenever I've used Billys the answer would be exactly the same - good service and good quality.
Perhaps we can get around the negative comments by a lack of postings. At school our references never say bad things about the kids but employers understand what a lack of information means. If there were 100 positive comments for ID and none for Billys (or vice versa) the implications would be clear without having to spell it out.

It would'nt matter which two shops were mentioned, every tackle shop no matter how good will have had problems with a customer or customers and vice versa. Everyone has his or hers favourite shop no matter what they are shopping for. If everyone prefered Morrison's then Tesco's would close next week as would Asda. When I was in the pub trade, it didn't matter what you did for some people they would still twist about something, also it does'nt matter how often and how long you use a tackle shop, eventually they will make a mistake. How that mistake is handled by both sides depends on the future of that partnership.

It has happened to me at several shops, bait ordered, got there and no bait. With two of them there was no apology or nothing, even when I told one of them them I had phoned before leaving my house. Needless to say I never used those shops again and still wont. A couple of other shops have apologised and sorted me out to both of our satisfaction and I would still use them today. It totally baffles me why the question was asked in the first place, especially the way it was worded

Jim.
