I'm new to fishing,3 or 4 months now...One of the reasons I started was that I read about this spot which is a few minutes walk from me,so very handy...I've had mild success in the other places I've been, nothing big but usually something, but I've never caught anything at this spot,or seen anyone else get anything on the few occasions I've seen people there...

Does anyone have any experience of this place, good or bad..? And is it worth persevering with..?

It is pretty much between marks that I've seen mentioned quite a bit,Hebburn marina and several further up the Tyne round Gateshead,so shouldn't it be as good as them...? Or do the fish get on the metro to get from Hebburn to Gateshead and back..? I've never seen any on there...:D

Thanks

Andy

its just hit nd miss up there some days av had a few other days crap not even a bite try two hrs either side of low or high water wen theres not as much pull and avoid if theres been loads of rainfall as theres to much fresh water coming down river also try different ranges wen casting you mite be casting to far

pretty much as peter says, i only fish it as a last resort even then last 3 of the flood and first 2 of the ebb. you dont need to be casting far there mind, 30-40 yds will do ya, you should get small tommys, whiting and flounders.Dont think i have ever seen a decent sized fish caught from there, can you still drive ya car there or is there another bollard or big boulder in the way ?

Definitely persevere but pick your times and tactics to fish there.
First, there has been loads of fresh water in the river lately which will not help.
I only seem to only catch on the couple of hours up to high tide.
Try fishing with two rods, one with a short cast, one further.
I have caught some canny fish with smaller hooks, try varying your hook and bait sizes.
Worm baits have always been best for me but if there are only whiting and flatties there, try some mackerel.
I don't get much on bigger tides so try fishing the small to medium tides.
This is only my own personal experience, others may say differently but good luck with your future fishing.

I have had more success further up the river just past friars goose marina a place called the bunk behind gateshead stadium ,biggest i caught 6lb cod but that was about 10 years ago.Best fish i have seen was 8lb 2 years ago, still lots of small stuff about but still waiting for the big one. i normally fish bottom water till high (most productive 1st 2 hrs and 1 hr top water). Best of luck in the future.

You read my mind often fish the other side at pottery bank and the same principles apply tightlines last 2 hrs of the flood on a small tide
