packed in fishing early last year about mid march but did hear of fish about thro april hendon prom picked up in april last year i heard.will fresh crab pick up fish or will it still be worm off shoreline, many people think of packing in about now but is it the right decision??

Hi, John there is always a chance of the odd codling turning up.
Those like my self who hang their sticks up for the winter are usually starting to fish for trout or coarse fish.
If it means your not going to fish then carry on and enjoy the experience.
I think my last session for this winter will be Mon or Tues depends on Codonly, i am still hoping to get a fish or two.

its probably best to make your own mind up john mate because opinions are like ar$e ole\"s every body has one!!!

hi mark ,well thats two of us mark can i do any worse during summer months i ask myself at least its warmer.

hi zzipie excellant reply

I think theres still a few cod about but i think thay will head out to sea as soon as the rough seas drop ill be out one more time i think then back to fishing the pier maches and trout fishing for the summer mounths :D

Why, when i was your age i used to get good bags of cod off Whitley Bay Beach and West Bay in early May with a good sea running in darkness. Dont think that would happen now, but there again does anybody try.

if the weather is right ,ive had them like alan in may in fact my best ever bag of cod was in april, three of us for 65 fish

i always fish for winter codling/whiting till back end of april as theres still a chance off good fish turning up after that i stick to peirs or spinning

well ya learn somthing new every day i had no idea that cod would still be around in may time i always give up on cod just after march in ,i think ill give it a try this year is there any tips ie, condoins and is it best night or day?

cheers sless, i aslo remeber getting red codlings off the rock edges during the summer, fat chance of that now unless you head for stores marks.

Sure I read somewhere that the cod season seems to be getting later with less fish november /december and more into april/may. Think it was refering to Bristol channel but maybe it\'s the case up here as well. Can\'t catch any less fish than I have during the winter anyway.

sorry to disagree lads but its cod season 12 months of the year,if ya like red codling you will find them all around rock marks and kelp beds
just you aint gotta be scared to lose loads of tackle in search of them

for some reason the ones around eyemouth tend to be full of worms not very vice to look at, put fillett in some salty water they soon come out, or just cook the things.
