Well as the title says " i've got it back ", just got back from picking up my rebuilt engine, as usual with these things there was a lot more wrong with it when they stripped it down, anyway it's been fully rebuilt and sounds great so i will be busy putting it back in the boat, hopefully the boat will be in the water in a week or two for testing, but should be down at royal quays for the weekend to antifoul etc, the list of new parts was as follows.

new turbo

new cylinder head

10 new valves

3 new pistons...and 5 sets of piston rings

full gasket set

full set big end and small end bearings

conrod

countless number of new nuts and bolts

3 new cylinder liners bored out to standard size

2 cylinders rehoned

not looking forward to finding out how much the parts cost though

so you could say it's basically a new engine

Just goes to show the damage someone not skilled in rebuilding engines can do, all of this because someone put the pistons in the wrong way round, on an engine which had previously only done 140 hours

the recesses on the top of the pistons to allow for the up and down valve movement where 180 degrees out, so when the engine was started the pistons and valves were hitting each other
