set off from hartlepool for a 6 hour drive to beautiful loch etive for a weekends fishing. arrived at connel about 13:00 and headed over for a look round Dunstaffnage castle before heading accross the connel bridge to the north shore to find a mark.
we had to find a place to camp aswell as fish which was not an easy thing to do. we searched for 3 hours driving as far as the quarry at bonawe but never venturing through it, back round the south shore down every road we could find. lots of nice places to fish but none suitable to camp. eventually deciding to head through the quarry. ended up finding a mark known as flat rock, which we had missed and only found becuase of the two lads fishing further down. the mark was perfect for what we needed. after a good tidy up of the mess which was disgusting to be honest we set to work setting up our home for the next 2 days.
during the tidying up we came accross some anti WSF posters and after the mess we found i can see why the locals do not want fisherman in the area.
we got the camp sorted out gear ready and had a good hot meal and ready to fish just in time for last last and looked forward to a good nights fishing.
fishing was very slow but enjoyable none the less as the exitementg of what was out there. first fish came around 22:00 a dog fish about 1.5lb then another at 2lb 1oz about an hour later. then a third lsd shortly after. nothing for a good while so we decided to make some supper and start getting ready to call it a night after a long day. time by now was around 03:30 and the next fish was landed, a new addition to my species hunt, a spurdog at just over a pound.
really cold at night but the following day was beautiful. the sun was shining and was really warm with no wind at all. today was to be chilled out with the focus being on a long nights fishing ahead. but we did try float fishing and with lures looking for a bit more sport but with no sucsess. i did however land another dog fish fishing on the bottom.
no more fish till after dark when i landed another dog fish. my mate landed 2 small spurs, a poor cod and what could be a small huss... help required with id please! no more fish were cought and my god was it cold -5
all in all an amzimg trip, no big fish not a lot of variaty but very enjoyable and lots of lessons learnt for next time. both of got the target species so very happy. all of my fish cought on full squid baits my mates cought on squid and macky. used mussel, razor, lug and other fish baits but with no sucsess
final total of fish- 3 spurs, 1 poor cod, 4 LSD and 1 bull huss???
loch etive..... AMAZING!
