set off from hartlepool for a 6 hour drive to beautiful loch etive for a weekends fishing. arrived at connel about 13:00 and headed over for a look round Dunstaffnage castle before heading accross the connel bridge to the north shore to find a mark.

we had to find a place to camp aswell as fish which was not an easy thing to do. we searched for 3 hours driving as far as the quarry at bonawe but never venturing through it, back round the south shore down every road we could find. lots of nice places to fish but none suitable to camp. eventually deciding to head through the quarry. ended up finding a mark known as flat rock, which we had missed and only found becuase of the two lads fishing further down. the mark was perfect for what we needed. after a good tidy up of the mess which was disgusting to be honest we set to work setting up our home for the next 2 days.

during the tidying up we came accross some anti WSF posters and after the mess we found i can see why the locals do not want fisherman in the area.
we got the camp sorted out gear ready and had a good hot meal and ready to fish just in time for last last and looked forward to a good nights fishing.

fishing was very slow but enjoyable none the less as the exitementg of what was out there. first fish came around 22:00 a dog fish about 1.5lb then another at 2lb 1oz about an hour later. then a third lsd shortly after. nothing for a good while so we decided to make some supper and start getting ready to call it a night after a long day. time by now was around 03:30 and the next fish was landed, a new addition to my species hunt, a spurdog at just over a pound.

really cold at night but the following day was beautiful. the sun was shining and was really warm with no wind at all. today was to be chilled out with the focus being on a long nights fishing ahead. but we did try float fishing and with lures looking for a bit more sport but with no sucsess. i did however land another dog fish fishing on the bottom.

Great report & fantastic pictures. You could easily forget about fishing when you have scenery like that. Pity no big fish for you but an enjoyable trip.

Did you manage to drive through the quarry ok? Cracking report by the way. I'm not sure there's many big fish left as we've fished it a few times now and caught nothing over 4lb.....beautiful place still tho!

yea mate got through ok...

ive read a lot of people saying sometimes gate at quarry is locked but i think its just people trying to put other anglers off fishing there.
that track has a house at the very end so a doubt they could lock it leagally and we aslo saw a few walkers coming the other way so the track is more than likley a public route.

allthough there is plenty of nice veiws accross the loch nothing before the quarry is anything near as nice as past it.

where about do you usually fish on your trips??!

cheers for comments lads

We normally fish the school or the priory on the Loch, the best results we've had though have came from the castle fishing towards the little island opposite. We fished the wind sock last time, strong tides there, couldn't hold bottom very well.

Great report mate, the flat rock can throw up a lot of species on its day, dont go near the place in the summer months the midges are a nightmare i fished the priory in August with a mate and had 21 thornbacks to 8lb in Daylight, fished the same venue next tide in the dark and blanked thats typical of Etive ... that fish does have the colouration of a small Huss but ive never heard of Huss in Etive.

craking report m8 and well done on the catch " love 2 go there ! been up the mull few times great place but not as picturesque as that ,last time went there for 4 days and fished day and night macky was in ? i never got one fish ov any kind on me rod :( must b a record
