Hi Taffy, I fished up there once with some mates a few years ago. We fished on the north side of the lock by the small church, very deep water there. Unfortunately it was just Dogfish for us.
I did a forum search and came up with this though, a few good posts on here.

one of my favourite marks up there is the flat rock, drive through the quarry on the north side of the loch and carry on about 1/4 of a mile, there is a sign on a tree asking you to keep the area litter free, this is where you want to be. Very deep water here the reckon about 250 - 300 yards deep, its that deep you can cast out 100 yards and by the time it hits the bottom your line is under your tip

Make sure you get some good quality mackerel, fresh if possibly if not the blast frozen ammo is good quality, squid and sand eel.
I'd make some wire traces up as a good spur will bite straight through the strongest of momo hook snoods, although i have hyad spurs on 100lb hook snood, its also handy to attach a small star light to your snoods or big glow beads as these do attract the spurs.
a standard 13ft rod is all you need and a 525 sized reel with 20lb and a strong shocker

think ive been to the same spot as they guy who mentioned the flat rock, - the water is unbelieveably deep!!! so take care if your with younger anglers, i caught my first thornback ray there which i was most pleased with, it was on straight squid also so you may want to take squid up there also, one thing is for sure, if you dont get any fish you will certainly enjoy watching your rod with the scottish highlands in the background! fantastic scenery.

I've just read an article in Total Seafishing (Jan 2010 edition) about Loch Etive, which is well worth a read. Seems like there's plenty of fish and a wide variety of species.

aye theres lots of species up there, weve managed double figure spurs, thornbacks upto 8lb, fresh run cod, kelpy cod, decent sized whiteys, pollock, dogfish, pout & poor cod. Heard of various other flat fish too but we hav'nt caught any.
We had a night in Oban on the lash and got talking to a boat owner, who had promised to take us to a relativity less fished part of the loch where we could catch dover sole, the only sticky point was he wanted £350 as there was no one else booked on the boat we had to decline as we were a bit short on funds as there was only four of us
