Yes it happened to me and my mate 6 years ago, never fished the spot since they put the railing up.It is very dangerous mark as the waves roll under the underhang and when they come over they carry you down the wall and off the end, i lost a reel and head light when it happened to me...ow and my 4lb bass that i had caught 5 mins before that.

am glad your safe and sound scott mate the things we do just for a few fish ,keep ya eye open around the prom area etc ya never know you might recover sommit back and hope if anyone else that finds anything are honest enough to hand it in ,or anyone on the site can pm you to get intouch or maybe hand them in to a local tackle shop .

Glad you're ok m8 :( I can't imagine what it must have been like in reality even though you've desribed it well.

My mate Geordie says he saw 2 lads get washed off there some time ago, loads of others fishing and could do nowt whatsoever apart from watch. He said the screams of the one of them shouting for help still haunt him.

Sorry if this is a bit heavy but it happens a lot. Then again sitting in your armchair eating pot noodles and watching Ruchard and Judy as a hobby will do for you eventually.

Allright Scott, pleased to hear you are ok,pensioners is the most dangerous place around here, one of the best marks in the north east for Cod other than the north eastern beach, but there is no where to run with the wall behind you,its always tempting for the rewards but for your familys sake stay behind the wall

a no mate.the waves come that fast ya dont even av time 2react.

Don't let it put you off scott, you'll have learned a lesson the real way. That coupled with the fact that you've cheated the reaper once means you'll be safe as houses for the rest of your natch. (Be careful crossing the road though!)

Get back on that horse - maybe at the Walkway or Ratty Corner likes?

Start flyfishing instead, it's gentle and safe!

Wade into a strange river a little too far and try to get back to the bank with water thundering past your thighs and threatening to take you away though - that water stuff man, see through, odourless and one of the most abundant thingmys on the planet can kill you badly, love and fear it. :yltype:

no coddy mate a was just setting up.a wil get back on me horse n a deffo will be more safe from now on.al be goin after the storm and not durin the storm.tho it seem 2 die off a bit

bloody hell m8 you had a close one, be careful as the reality and shock might take a while to set in. Plaesed you poste your experience as it will make everybody more aware, well at least for a while. Hope it dosn't put you off, but I bet you will be more careful, but you can't predict what the sea is going to do. Stay safe.

Glad your ok mate, ive been hit by a few waves although not what i would consider big ones, the power they possess is awesome. Even when your standing in the surf you feel it tugging at your legs, scary stuff man. Like others have said, at least it was only your gear that was lost. I'd also be picking 6 numbers for 2moras lotto aswell your one lucky dude! Joking aside though, its another call for some lifebelts to be installed along Hendon.

talking about bad luck i popped in a shop on the way fishing tonight on hylton road near second hand shops looks out the shop window to see swarms of cop cars round me motor ,a mad knifeman carrying a blade had decided to jump into me passenger seat to seek refuge to hide , cops took him away and searched me tackle etc and all over the car ,cost me 50 mins and was worried about catching the top of the tide ,eventually i was sent on me way after a statement that i never knew the lad ,and i also blanked tonight :(
