Lure Challenge 2014

I'd have thought the corn was an artificial bait not a lure. Surely the real bait scattered around it attracted the fish and it's pot luck if they take the plastic corn. But that's just my opinion.

If Phil has said the corn is ok though then that's the way it is. It's his time and effort going into running it all for us and I appreciate that.

I've got no chance of winning the lure hunt cos I don't do any fresh water fishing. It's not my cup of tea.

I'm still gonna enter my catches and just see how I compare with everyone else's salt water species. Well I'll enter if I manage to get out lol.

Lol good luck with the corn.

I know what your saying about changing the rules but as every year we will be asking what peoples thoughts are for the year after, that way everyone gets there say.

I've never fished for Carp before do any of the carp lakes allow fly fishing

foxponds has carp in the trout pond for added fun .

I wasn't using groundbait to attract fish that would be like baiting a shad and putting a caught fish on here, I had located a few fish in the margins and lowered a hookbait down. Nor will I try and hook a roach on fake maggot by catapulting real maggots over it, it goes without saying. I did catch other carp on other rods using the method feeder but it was cast well away. In saying that fly fishing works by having lots of natural bait in the area. That's a big part of it, it is natural pre baiting if you like.

I can see what your saying about having no chance due to not going for freshwater species but as I mainly coarse fish and only for carp my time is very limited to go sea fishing. I've already lost a month and I have to stop fishing by September because my time is taken up with falconry.
There's a lot of assumptions going on, I have no chance of winning this as I cannot spend the time needed to do so. As the table clearly shows who caught what and splits sea from freshwater we will all know who won the sea challenge even if they didn't win the overall challenge. I want to catch as many sea species as the rest of you, I think some people think Im some coarse fisherman coming on here to win a sea competition lol. Nothing could be further from the truth I only like carp and tench fishing. I'm not keen on the match scene and would ban pole fishing and keep nets from the places I fish if I could. I also hate the sound of bite alarms. I probably won't catch anything else bar a tench unless its an accident.
As I say maybe a lot of assumptions going on, maybe by catching a few more sea species I can redeem myself, give me a chance I've only had this weekend.

Thinking about it some sea fishermen gather up kelp maggots to use as groundbait and then fly fish with artificials over it for mullet. I think it would be silly to not let a fish caught in that manner count in this fun challenge don't you all agree.??

I wasn't saying that was how you personally caught the fish. That's just how I thought it was used. I still don't think it's a lure though.

An un-naturally bright coloured bit of plastic especially one popped four inches from the lake bed is a lure. What else could it be, if I'm fishing Isome over the side of a harbour wall without moving it, it is a bit of plastic luring a fish towards it. Go out and see how far a goby or blenny will swim over to investigate a plastic bait in a rockpool. I know that traditional lure fishing has been spinners etc but with LRF it can pay to put the hook out and just leave it, if it's not lure fishing what is it??.

If it lures a fish its a lure in my book....

Sneaky Phil.... Grabbing a pout on the yak.... I'm just giving you all enough of a lead to make my comeback and following victory all the more sweet!! (Read into that, stuck in the house with the baby and barely able to get out lol :D)

I'm trying Phil lol.
On Monday I only managed to catch coley on bait, yesterday I blanked on a short river session and this evening I caught a dozen mirror carp on Isome but I've already got them.

Back out Friday evening on the shore.
