:o We aren't really counting fish caught on fartificial corn are we? If that were the case then half the carpers in the country would be classed as top lure anglers, when the fact is they think dropshot is something that happens when you spill your tub of shot for popup counter weights or when you go for a squat in the bushes :D

Lure angling is using artificial bait that you impart an action to in order to provoke a feeding or aggression response.

Reet, I'm off down my syndicate to get carp, tench and rudd on fake maize

Hey I had the rules confirmed earlier if you look unless I got it wrong. I also checked out what was being classed as a lure!!!
Sticking a set of feathers out wasn't what I'd thought of as lure fishing either but it would count.
I couldn't give a s**t if it dosent count but why don't you just go out and catch the course species, as you say many fish that swims including a lot of sea species will take artificial corn etc. the rules need clarify then because I expected to catch sea species on artificial bread for example, just like the mullet I caught on it last week.

Feathers are lures because you impart an action to them, hence 'luring' the fish. Pop up corn is just that, legered pop up corn...see my point in my post above. It makes a mockery of lure fishing, plain and simple. If you'd had them dropshotting isome or something like a lot of people have then much respect :)

I could go out and absolutely slay the species hunt with coarse fish species using artificial baits that were designed purely as a more robust imitation of the real thing (to withstand nibbles from feeding fish) that is fed amongst the real food items and taken as such with no action imparted to it, e.g. fake casters and hemp. I'm not going to though as it IS NOT lure fishing :)

Your fish will count mate, just a any trout caught on a blob type fly or any fish caught on an isome worm fished statically or a Mullet on a bread fly. An artificial bait that tricks a fish into eating it is as good an artificial worm or fish im my books, this was the case last year and will be this year. If people disagree we will look into changing for next year.

phil if ppl disagree then its their prerogative not too enter the fish or the challenge. next u gonna get someone(like me?) who might disagree with microscopic fish , then u will get someone who will find kayak an excessive advantage over shore bla bla bla. rules get set folks will just have to play along .

(real reason for rant ----artificial corn already en route from ebay :) )

Lol good luck with the corn.

I know what your saying about changing the rules but as every year we will be asking what peoples thoughts are for the year after, that way everyone gets there say.

I've never fished for Carp before do any of the carp lakes allow fly fishing

I would think most carp lakes will allow fly fishing it's not much different from surface fishing for them. Most lakes insist on barbless hooks.

Phil asked and clarified the rules prior to the challenge taking place... I don't agree with some of them however rules are rules, they were agreed by the majority and as far as I know seem to be pretty clear....

Corn lures... Whatever next haha! I'll stick with my rubber eels and zenith minnows... I recon I could catch more carp on a zenith spinner than you guys do with your corn lure!! Lol

Sorry Phil, I'm not trying to sound like a smartar$e but classing placcy corn, bread, dog biscuits, etc as lures is making the species hunt a joke and takes all the fun out of it as well as devaluing the fish caught legitimately on lures and lure angling techniques.

You don't hear match anglers like Alan Scotthorne saying they are going lure fishing with fake casters do you? No, they use them as they are simply more robust than their loosefeed and don't require continual rebaiting when fish are feeding and they may suck out a hookbait of real caster, corn, etc.

It seems a few people don't know what lure fishing actually is. Lure fishing is using a non-food item such as crankbaits, jerkbaits, soft plastics, flies, etc that you IMPART ACTION in to in order to induce a fish into taking it as a feeding or aggression response. Are we going to class tab ends as lures too? I know a couple of people that have caught fish on one! :D

This all reminds me a bit of this clip from Father Ted :D

I think I'm going to withdraw from the hunt now as it seems rather pointless calling it a lure fishing species hunt. However, I may just decide to go hammer most of the British and introduced coarse species on placcy corn, hemp and casters. :D

Yeah a boat off Hartlepool, slow going but a canny amount of fish were caught in the end. Normally I would put a bit of bait on the shad hook for a ling when things are slow or at slack water but I wanted to bag one on just the lure today and it paid off. I was a bit unlucky other lads had pouting and whiting on the shads but for once I didn't. Typical when I want them normally it's a nuisance lol.

As for corn I'll catch plenty of course fish in the following few weeks on twitched isome and artificial bread slowly dragged across the surface of the water. That is lure fishing is it not??
The idea that someone could slay this friendly comp by going after course fish is a laugh, we can all catch those species. It will come down to the sea, let's see who gets what!!

A tab end would be bait lol.
I hope you stay in it, I'll catch coarse fish on moving lures so the corn thing is neither here nor there. I wanted to make a start after losing a month since this started so had a short session on carp and booked a place on a boat for today.

It's just a bit of fun where novice anglers like me can learn from others.

So is a Mullet caught on a bread fly not a lure caught fish, or a flounder caught on a static isome, (i know a few lads on here, myself included who caught them like that last year), or a trout caught on a yellow blob fly underneath a strike indicator?

A lure by definition is
"lure (lo͝or)
n.
1.
a. Something that tempts or attracts with the promise of pleasure or reward.

b. An attraction or appeal.

2. A decoy used in catching animals, especially an artificial bait used in catching fish.

3. A bunch of feathers attached to a long cord, used in falconry to recall the hawk."
