im getting a bit fed up of paying $ 1.50 a pop for the pre tied greys rigs only to loose them and the lead on a 1st cast from some marks , so i was thinking of making my own. i have bought the book from sea angler regarding rigs & now need all the bits n bobs , im asssuming most of the lads on here make there own rigs so what would you recommend buying ie type of line for main body / snoods ,swivel / hook / bead sizes etc & are there any north east must haves ? ( i dont want your secret special rigs just a general idea) many thanks davey

personal opinion, forget all about the bits and bobs, bait shields etc watse of money, and tie yourself some plain two hook rigs.

My general philosophy is the simpler the better, that way when you lose them you lose the minimal amount of money. Also buy the components in bulk, it may be more expensive initially but in the long run it's cheaper. I usually use some 60lb rig body and 20lb memorx for the hook lengths.

I use this part of NESA as a general guide

You cant go wrong with a pennel pulley mate.

Easiest way to do it is just buy a pre made one and then copy it.

I use 80lb for the main body and the 25/30lb amnesia for the hook length.
Just bear in mind when using a pulley that using a 30lb hook length isn't the best if power casting with a 6oz sinker!!!

10lb of beaking strain to everyounce of lead ;-)

Not many places around Whitley bay mind where you need to fish at great distances so I've never had a bit of bother.

Cheers

The rig section on here that Gaverick has posted the link too is well worth a read, nice clear piccies and instructions/guides.

pulley`s or penel pullys for me in winter for big baits

not goin to say cod because i seem to catch whiting that shoehorn my big baits in :o:D:D:D:D

Dont knock the whitys, as a old angler said to me when he came on to the pier and asked me if there was anything catching, i replied only whiting, he said to me without them [only whitings ]our winter sport can be very boring, how true.

The most cost effective way to make your own rigs is to buy in bulk from the internet. You will be amazed at how little you can make them for.
