Never thought i would see the day........

Been reading a lot of stuff about people saying that the piers should be closed to stop the mess and Macky bashers. Now I totally agree there is a big problem but we should be very carefull about talking about piers being locked. At the end of the day the piers are a tourist attraction and the councils have an interest in keeping the tourism. Playing devils advocate for a second it might make more sense for the councils to close the piers through the winter when the weather is bad and people are risking their lives trying to fish on them against all advice from the authorities and the coastgaurd and these days health and safety wins every time. Non of us want them closed in the winter. Please let's not talk about closing piers but start looking after them instead..

Simples,

have an enforceable summer fishing license (apr-oct) £10 enforceable with a fine if fishing these months without a license. (a BIG FINE) fund raised can go towards awareness conservation etc. no i hvent really thought this true but just fewlt like typing it

You get fined for dropping a cigarette. why dont they spend one afternoon where there is people making real mess on the piers. would make them think again in future. As for closing the piers thats a terrible idea.
What about us anglers that fish all year round and tidy after themselves? a few bad ones spoil it for all.

I don't know the answer to this rubbish problem but it's certainly not only the summer months you see mess on the piers I have see loads of rubbish scattered about in the depths of winter with not a chav in sight only :REAL: anglers so where did that rubbish come from, before we start pointing fingers at the fair weather anglers[who I do know contribute a great deal to the mess] we should get our own house in order.
at last,a bloke with a bit sense, its always this time of year when the young'uns get ****,i also went to pier, float fishing near blocks,i seen a family eat a meal and hav drinks 10 yrds from a bin and leave rubbish on floors,im 30 now and I remember when I was a kid and the **** people try t give you,and I remembered the way I thought about them,it always them that get blame, not for me lads, its tourists, families and people just out for a walk aswell that leave a mess

mackie scum

mackie scum

heres an idea instead of trying to close piers or make decent people pay licences(which the scum wont)how about tell them to pick up there **** and people who are fishing nearby back them up,if 1 person tells them to pick it up they will probably start an argument but if he has 3 or 4 fisherman to back him up then they will probably do it,you will always get one who will want an altercation, but the vast majority will back down, even if they dont they will think about what they are doin

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be getting any better on Roker pier. I was fishing Wednesday morning from about 12am and catching nothing so I picked up some rubbish that was laying around. I ended up with one full black sack and seven full carrier bags, I only stopped because I couldn't carry anymore off with me.

It's a damn shame that people seem to have such a lack of respect or pride for their own town that they think this is acceptable.

Rubbish is rubish you cant blame anyone unkess you see them drop it but what amazes me is people who oiss in the bunker and on the door to the light house you have the sea in front of you do it there. Its not just the pier people get the hump over the walkway about cars getting keyed and the old bloke ringing the police about "fishermen" put it the other way round if people were oissing on the wall of your house or hanging around making a noise all through the night i wouldnt ring the police i would batter them same as if you couldnt get parked on your drive or near your house because people have parked there to fish you would get the hump. We are fishermen just because we have a rod does not give us any power over laws and commen decency. However some feel it does i am all for a license on sea fishing charge 100 quid a year but only if they inforce it. Its the only way you will stop abuse

Mate the clampets on the pier have no shame

I agree , but it shows who is doing it though , I fished the other day with rubbish all round and cant help but wonder what people walking past must have thought .
This is really getting my goat now and want to do something about it .............................
lets not wait on the powers that be , it is where we like to fish !!

You're wasting you're time James mate, we all feel like this, I pick what rubbish is around the mark I fish if there's any. Thing is you can't pick it all up or you end up wasting your session, and drive yourself nuts when the brigade turn up and start throwing rubbish around again.

this post has over 1000 views if we all turn up that might educate some ? And the rest we hoy off the end ...,, . I dont want to be tarred with the same brush by the public ,I and i like to think most of us on here are responsible fishermen .

Pretty much one of the main reasons I stay away from piers in the summer months, having OCD I'd spend the hours picking up rubbish ect, in winter I do the same but it's not really as much..

The thing is that the people walking past aren't wandering philosophers or environmentalists, they are the same people but without the fishing gear. I've seen loads of the cretins chucking fish and chip wrappers and crisp bags on the deck while their children swing on the railings, the parents blissfully unaware with their face jammed into mobile phones. It's not just the one's fishing.:(

Ive an idea, close the piers during daylight hours

Let the proper fishermen on at night then close it at first light

:D Strange, Ive fished along side some of the best anglers in the north east on roker pier ;)

Great sport to be had on roker in the summer mate, jsut dont get the chance for the mackie bashers

Just returned from an enjoyable session at the above, yes you've guessed the rubbish is unbelievable, only a matter of time before angling is banned here as well.

We were up there a couple wks ago that poor ranger was filling bin liners with loads of crap .Whats hard about sticking it in a carry bag put it in your box and take it home
