Nigel Farage and Angling Trust.

Thanks for the post, Sam. In my opinion, Farage is right about fishing but wrong about a whole lot of other stuff. And he and UKIP are a flash in the pan.

When he mentions that Sea Anglers are more atomised and independent than, for example, trout and salmon anglers, he has a good point too. So long as sea anglers have the right to fish the coastline freely, there will be no effective sea angling body. Sea anglers are generally working class men who want to enjoy the freedom of the sport. It is an escape.

I'm all for lobbying politicians about issues that protect the marine environment, but let's not start voting UKIP - they only exist because the other options are rubbish.

;)

Cannot agree Ross. at least he has angling at heart being an angler himself and that cannot be a bad thing unless he turns out to be like all the rest and tells us what he thinks we want to hear ! I for one will be voting for them next time around as they cannot be any worse than the present lot from both Labour and the Tories mate. Give him a chance eh ?

cheers.

aa.

Talking to Nigel I got the impression that he was very genuine about his love of fishing and wanting to help us as much as he can. As a friend of mine, who was with me said "you feel you could ring him up and say do you fancy a couple of hours on the pier and he would jump at the chance". He has asked me to arrange a trip up here with Barney Wright (editor Total Sea Fishing) so Nigel can sample what we have to offer up here as he has never fished the North East before. He doesn't mind if it's boat or shore, any offers anyone?.

Amble Open 5th January 2014 ?
He'll get to meet some top anglers up here !

His love for fishing might be all well and good, but if you phone him up to go fishing with you and your a woman, black or asian etc, he'll just push you off the cliffs and tell you to swim back home where you came from
Politics don't have a place in fishing and people with his views shouldn't have a place in politics. Saying that though, our only choices when it comes to voting next year are some toffs, a cat (literally a cat), the hippies or some racist/sexists psychos. They all sound pretty crap to me lol

Since when has farage been racist ? Or derogatory to woman kind ?
Are we talking about the same bloke ?

I don't recall Nigel saying vote for me in the interview. We talked about fishing, and what he can do as a politician to help our sport. By the way, one of UKIPs candidates is an Asian gentleman. And NO I don't vote UKIP.
I'm just grateful that somebody is willing to try and do something for the sea angler because nobody else is.
