Norway

Just thought I would join the conversation about Norway
Been the last 2 years - first year was fishing in the Lyngen Fjord and this year tried the Malangan Fjord - both locations in Northern Norway
Fishing is what you would expect - spectacular with plenty of fish (and a lot of different varieties) to be be had, Cod, Tursk, Ling, Wolfish, Coalies, Haddock, Redfish, Mackeral
We fished out of the fjords and the depths of these range from 1 metre to 300+ metres and also fished the open sea.
Booked through Din Tur (Ian Peacock) and everything was in with the price apart from the air fare. 5 of us went this year and we had a 5 bedroomed house - 2 boats - transfers to/from the airport (and the host even threw in the use of his quad bike/trailer) and we paid approx £300 pp. On top of that there were flights from Gatwick to Tromso and that came in at £180 return with Norwegian airways. Then as previously mentioned by someone else there was the cost of the journey to Gatwick/parking etc.
Rod tubes are the order of the day and the airline charged £10 each way for this - I taped a lot of pirks/weights onto my Rods to cut down on baggage weight. Carried all my reels and some remaining pirks (minus hooks!!) as hand baggage - leaving the rest of the gear to go in as checked baggage. Take some dried goods with you - herbs/spices/pasta/rice/coffee/tea as they are very pricey in the supermarkets. Drink - we had loads with us and in reality drank very little - we were fishing by 9am and not returning till 8pm then by the time everyone is fed/watered/bathed/gear prepped for the next day we were all shattered - quick night cap then kip time and boy did we sleep well !!
For those who have been - they will go or will want to go again - and for those who havent been - well worth considering a trip. The fishing over there is something which we will never experience in our waters.

syeve can you pm me every bit of info you have about the place and contact info for the guy you go through as im going to book up got cash waiting just want the best deal.

Norway

Norway

haddock to 6lb
Coalies to 12lb
Wolfish - 12lb
Redfish - 5lb
Ling to 10lb
Cod to 30lb

but plenty of them!!!!!!! It is arm aching because they come thick and fast with the only respite being the slack tide - even deep in the fjords. Couple of hours with little action then bang - its like Groundhog day

Well the more i look into it the more i wish to go but the more i know i need to save and organise things for travel etc...Big_sid dropped a book off at mine all about locations for fishing in Norway..ow yer am going as soon as i get the chance :)

what you should do gregg lad is add me and carver to the list of people going lol

There are 7 of us goin Scott and it's all booked up already mate. 10 weeks tonight and we might have had our first fish :)

Get in touch with Phil and get something sorted. He will probs sort it for just the 2 of you to go over but i'm sure you will get more people interested in going!

Good info there steve.
Was the fishing at malangen as good at lyngen? Myself and 3 others are heading to Buvik, malangen next year and could do with some info on that area.
Where abouts were u staying? Looking at the charts, nearly the whole area seems to be very deep (upto 450 metres), What depth did u find fished the best. Did u fish the open sea?
Cheers in advance for any info.

Fishing at Malangen was as productive as the Lyngen - but we only ventured out to open sea from the Malangen fjord as we had two boats (safety in numbers!!!) having said that the main fish caught in the open sea was mainly coalies as we noticed bait fish bouncing on the surface so we headed for that action and ended up having a 2 hour scrap as we launched into a shoal of them - we changed gear to fly rods and spinners to intensify the fun.action - and a 10lb coalie on a spinner or a fly has to be experienced....
The fishing from the fjords were true to the maps provided - there were a list of marks/depths - provided by the owners - which tallied up with the fish finders - a lot of it was a learning experience - looking for drop offs and fishing deep water - some of the fjords are so deep they will strip your reels and take the backing line as well and you still wont be on the bottom. Then if you are unlucky enough (!!) to get a decent fish on it is a long haul in. Butt rests are essential!!
Stayed at Haveness Handlestaad which is on the Lyngen Fjord - owner was a lass called Hegga and the accommodation was fine. This year stayed at a gaff called Fearihoose on the Malangan Fjord - absolutely top class facilities. Ian Peacock (NE Din Tur Rep) is based out of NETS Ryhope Rd Seaham - we have used him twice and he is knowledgeable about most of the locations cos he reckons he has fished them all - bummer of a job!!!!!! My advice to anyone fancying a trip would be to call him for the lowdown. Having said that there are a number of other companies offering similar holidays in Norway. My previous experience of fishing abroad was a trip to Iceland shore fishing - I can also thoroughly recommend that as well - the fishing was manic and loads of fish caught from dawn till dusk.
