Open Competition This weekend coming

I am hearing all sorts of remarks about this open.

Someone came in the shop today and said he had been in touch with the organisers and asked: what if South Shields pier is closed? Answer: you can go beyond the gates and fish but it is at your own risk!

If that is completely true ( which i find hard to believ) then i would think the organisers have no public liabilty insurance.

Plenty of other rumours going around also, too many to mention.

Please, please if any of the organisers are watching get your act together and post some rules and boundaries otherwise i think the attendance will suffer.
I know most of the confusion has come about due to the fact the venue HQ has been changed, but lets be fair in no way have the organisers got in touch with local tackle shops, forums etc and made the fishing public aware of the changes.

Someone asked the question about wether or not it was another Shields Open, let me make it quite clear: The South Shields & District Sea Angling Cub are in no way connected to this Open Comp.

any queries about this comp contact carl thompson on 0191 5131480

sure he will give you all the info you need

ive just spoke to carl and everything will be explained in the rules book you get with you ticket

out of bounds and a definate no no tynmouth pier, cambois pier cause of the bad state its in

in bounds blyth pier all of the tyne ,south sheilds pier but if the gate is locked he said its fished at your own risk and nothing to do with the orginisers if anything happens

this charity is by northern rock and yes they have liabilty insurance

any more info contact carl

this comp has a massive prize table aswell about £3000 just some of the prizes mag extras, supermags, geys rods, plus lots more nice prizes

Just got this info off Carl

they can fish from lynmouth north beach as far up as
boghall rocks but not the rocks themselves down to
roker pier if open, cambois and tynemouth pier are out
of bounds, they can fish anywhere up the tyne or Blyth, Wear is out, as long
as they are not caught tresspassing, anyone caught
tresspassing or fishing banned marks will be
disqualified, i have a team of 20 going around all of
the boundaries on they day to keep an eye out.

see its worth just entering to try and win a copy of davids book coz its a fantstic read lol even know it dosnt have public liability lmao

Thanks to Paul and Alan for what they have put on tonight.

Sorry to seem so negative but alan you state "as long as they are NOT caught tresspassing" does that mean they can tresspass and still be allowed to weigh-in?

If that is correct then it seems a little odd to me!

Paul, they can climb round the pier gates if locked, and the organisers have public liability Insurance.
If anyone goes round the gates then the public liability will be deemed null and void and that goes for the tresspassing bit also.

To be perfectly blunt i dont think the organisers have given enough thought into this comp and its a great pity, Its scary to say the least.

Anyway, i sincerely hope things go ok and wish them every success,(fingers crossed).

I started this post to try and get some information, looks like i've opened a can of worms. What it does demonstrate, that many anglers don't even consider, is all the work and organisation that people do for the other opens, which run smoothly.....not that I'm saying this open won't be successful.....I'm just jealous, cos I can't fish it.

ive spoke to carl today again and hes done a last minute change to the rules book sheilds pier can be fished if the gates are open if there locked then its a no go it cant be fished

hope this eventually clears things up on this thread and yes they take a lot of hard work orginising and time

anyone wanting tickets can register on the day from 8am at the new crown loads of tickets have already been sold so looks like its going to be a good turn out

Paul

Very sensible move paul, could have been a real nightmare if pier was closed and they allowed to go round.

Alan, i thought to my self thats what it probably meant, however there are some who would have taken it literally and to the letter, thought it might be for the best to point it out, cos you know what its like being an organiser.

anyone from the gateshead area wanting tickets rather than going to the registration give me a ring on 07955517225 i'll be picking some up tonight you can pick them up tomorrow saturday if it makes things easier

your right there Terry, some anglers would have taken it literally as we all know some will try and abuse rules. Organising an event like that is a nightmare and no doubt as we all know, regardless of how the evnt goes like any other open someone will moan, the ones who catch nowt and have never prganised a thing. Hats off to Carl and his mates for orgnising the event
