Well Rob you asked the question!
As arranged we fished our first tie, originally picked over low water as we intended to fish on the open coast however because of the flat calm sea and the clear water neither of us wanted to win or get knocked out by rocklings so we opted for a change of venue and headed for a river mark where we thought there was a good chance of some sizeable fish.
We ended up at Hebburn, MB took Zippie to the grass bank while foz and I fished the mesh.
As we were setting up Foz tried to bribe me with an alcholic beverage to which i declined.
Rods assembled and rigs tied up it was time to bait up, then the nightmare began,i had left my bait in the fridge at the shop and that would have meant driving home to pick up the shop keys, then to the shop and back down to the river.
Just ready to set off for home Foz came over and offered a share of the bait he had, an offer for which i was more than greatful of and took him up on.
The tide was ripping out so we had to use 170g grip leads, also loads of flotsom floating down with the tide which made things difficult. Third cast into the session and i was into a codling, just knocked it on the head and Foz was fishing, he also landed a codling, slightly smaller than mine.
Got another codling next cast to which foz replied with 2 undersized codlings.
It went quiet for the next hour ( apart from the running commentry via txts between Foz & Zippie), so we decided to move further up river closer to where MB & Zippie were fishing.
For the remaining 2 hours of the match i had very little or no bait ( was too embarrassed to hint for more off Foz) and had to watch him catch fish after fish on just about every cast up until the end of the match.
We finshed at 11.00pm and met up with MB & Zippie to compare notes, had a cup of tea/coffee and a chat, off loaded the fish to Foz for his dogs, shook hands and went off on our seperate ways home.
I think i can speak for all four of us, we had a really enjoyable session and the patter was good also, the match was fished in good spirit with just a hint of competetiveness (if thats the right word) oh and we caught some fish to boot.
