penn sqidder

I used a Squidder 35 years ago for beach fishing, if its in good working order there is no reason you couldnt use it off the boat, plenty people still use the old Garcia Michell reels on the boats, hope it serves you well Tom...:)

i could be wrong but i think that reel doesnt have a braking system just your thumb:)
ive used a penn 160 beachmaster and a mitchell garcia 602 for shore angling
and both cast as smooth as silk! the only major problems with them is the slow retreive and you have to have an educated thumb as these reels will nest like a shot if not watched like a hawk:)
on the plus side there very strong and pretty much bomb proof and were made to last!!
you shouldnt have any problems using them for the boat mate:)
by the way welcome caughtnowtyet to nesa if ive not already:):)

i used one as a kid on the beaches in the 80's , smashing reel allbeit a tad slow on the retrieve 3/1 ratio i think they are , hauled many a fish in with mine .

penn squidder was a great reel at the time it had air brakesyou could file the fins on the brakes to tune the reel the beach version had plastic spool which was no good for boat fishing it could explode the boat version had metal spool it came in 2 sizes if i remember the numbers were 140m and 146m metal spool 140p or 146p plastic
