hi lads its my 1st real post and i was just wondering if there has been any plaice showing around the south shields area, i havnt been out fishing for awhile and i was just wondering if any has shown abit early.

yeah, what was more bizarre though was that he caught it on float (hes a newbie and I was trying to fish while teaching him) thought he snagged but pulled that up lol... was gobsmacked lol

normaly we get plaice of seaham pier this time of year but ive not had any,ive had dab,flounder and the baits i use is sandeel ,rag ,whiteworm if i can get,and maddies...

Hi mate, hows best to fish Marsden I am guessing low water because of the amount of rock laying around on the shore, also would I need a rod rest or is it better to hold rod there?. I live 10 mins walk away but never tried fishing Marsden beach, been along with the intention of fishing there but it was white water so left.

Having recced (but never fished) I'd guess the last bit of the flood then fish the tide back. With a beach that shallow fishing the tide up would be a mare moving your gear every 30 seconds.

I'm sure others with more knowledge will be along in a bit; the thing that puts me off fishing there is paying £1 an hour for parking at the top of the cliff.

Hello,
Blyth pier and further down at Whitley Pipe are shots to try for plaice, further down again the Middens at North Shields, fish from the beach in front of the carpark. Given some nice settled weather this mark will be popular in the next month or so.

agree with whats been said here ,the middens if you use a two hook rig 1up 1down you regulary pull two in at a time ,ragworm 1/0 hooks .best to have a look at low water to see were the rocks are and cast as near to them as you dare at high water.
for the big plaice first gate on south shields pier and mark 44

middens seem to produce bigger bags but not the size of plaice you get at shields pier but you still get them to 2lb which is a good plaice.

The year before last 44 hoyed some great bags of plaice up for me, nearly a good keeper a chuck on some seshes. But for me last year on the same mark was terrible for them, just the odd one. Hope it's a two year cycle and their back in numbers again.

Fished a comp on Tynemouth pier today everyone catching plaice i had 7lb of them all fell to ragworm tipped with mackerel 2 large fish were caught biggest being 2lb 10oz

This was not my fish my biggest was 1lb 4oz propper bin lid well done Chris Barrass in the picture.
