Possible closure of Tynemouth Pier

Lads & Lasses - have heard that Port of Tyne are to meet to discuss the closure of Tynemouth Pier to fishing clubs! :o Anyone know anything about it?

Just the Duke of Northumberland after more money. Them pair of greedy B******s will stop at nothing. There hoping the fishing clubs will offer them more to keep it open.

Sless. Chances are the Duke gets \'rent money\' from PofT as the land at the start of the pier is probably \'his\'. It\'s terrifying how much income this family must have from this kind of thing as the amount of land he owns is awesome. (If I want to put a conservatory up in the back garden I have to give him £400 for the privilege, the silver spoon in gob t*sspot, and all the grants he got for Alnwick gardens as well).
Come the revolution!

3 interesting facts for you:

1. The Duke of Northumberland has 132,200 acres worth in excess of £800 million.

2. The Queen and her immediate family of just eight people have for their use, in one way or another, the same amount of land as 11,000,000 people who live in England.

3. The Duke of Westminster with 129,300 acres, including highly valuable parts of the richest land of real estate in the World, namely Belgravia and Mayfair in central London, owns land worth over £11.5 billion. He is the wealthiest individual in Britain.

hedley.
could this be down to health and safety, public liability that people climb on after the gates are closed and have to rescued as in the past.this is the excuse they have used to stop all fishing of the piers at blackpool and nobody has been hurt there since the clubs have taken over
hope it isnt closed to us fisherman who respect the places we fish as i have a match on the pier with the civil service team finals next year.
tynemouth pier is the proposed venue.

The clubs that have permission to fish on Tynemouth pier must have 3rd party liability insurance so i dont think that is the reason if they close it. Its more likely to do with the rubish left on there by the lads that climb over at night. Ive been on the pier at 9-30 am and the end of the place is a right tip, there is bait packets, line, carrier bags, old cloths and often beer cans left lying around. Is it any wonder they are thinking of closing it the the angler.
I fish with newbiggin hall club and the first thing we do when we go along is to pick up other peoples rubbish, but its to late as the watchman/gatekeeper or whatever you want to call him has already been along and seen it.

how do you go about getting permission Hedley if its not closed then may be worth our club applying and if nothing else it will be another club cleaning the mess away of the inconsiderate b******s who leave it. sorry if theis offends but you just need to see the state of blyth pier or say the rat house `or even davey bank (which now appears closed) to understand the frustration of the majority. what effort does it take to remove your rubbish? whats the cost of leaving it? :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet:

Don\'t want to be a scaremongerer, but I\'ve noticed South Shields pier has been shut during the day all this week (and I don\'t see any \"maintenance\" going on) ????

I think that Laksmi Mittal and Roman Abramovich are wealthier than Westminster, who according to the Sunday Times is worth about 8 billion. Northumberland is a relative pauper at 300 million. Sounds a lot, but I suspect most of it is art, furniture and assests which he cannot sell. We can cuss him for wanting more money but hey, who wouldn\'t like to have a few more quid?
I frequently attend meetings in Belgravia and I can tell you the wealth there is staggering. I recall a few weeks ago seeing and Aston, a Ferrari and a Porsche in a line on meters in Belgrave square.

..........latest news is....?....there is no real news! :casstet:

Local feeling is that Port of Tyne \'debated\' anglers use of the Pier following \"That Accident\" when 2 lads were badly hurt climbing over the barriers/gates one evening for an illicit fishing session. It is considered that anglers \'illegally\' fishing at night then leaving all their rubbish to be cleared up by the attendants each morning is the problem.

It is a condition of use of the pier by angling clubs that no rubbish or mess is left behing after matches. The \'right\' to fish the pier with the permission of Port of Tyne is a privilege that must not be abused. As far as I am aware, all clubs with permission to fish conduct themselves properly and Port of Tyne can have no compalints.

However - as usual it - seems it is the irresponsible and thoughtless minority trespassing and leaving their trash who are risking the loss of another fishing venue.
