questions please

Does the minister realise that by alienating so many traditionally labour voting sea anglers, he will almost certainly lose his seat at the next election, when the said anglers vote against the person behind this unworkable tax on their hobby.

Lots of love

Tony.

He wont though as he is an a very safe labour seat!

Why is there such a lack of affordable housing in our small villages and towns to encourage our youth to stay and work and keep our communities alive instead of encouraging buy to rent, second homes, holiday homes and city commuters who don't (in general) give a fig about their adopted community only the view from their windows. By affordable I mean for a bloke with a wife and 2 kids earning what is the average wage up here of meebe's £12,000 pa.
If we are to have a sea angling licence will the labour party ensure that all the foreign vessels plundering our fish stocks and damaging our sea bed eco systems thru their greed for more fish for less effort are banned from coming into OUR waters.
Will the same boats that gill net our best fishing marks be bannned from doing so?
Will the idiots who dig around the boats and dig commercially at Boulmer be banned from digging there ever again?

im interested to know if and what the re-stocking/conservation policies will be.( the bare minimum required to justify a licence in my eyes )
if so :-
where are you going to hoy the fish in ?

Sless- please ask Mr Milliband if he has ever tried sea angling? whether it be a local hoy with some of the lads or even as a competition angler?
Does he know how much effort and money angler's pay to take part in our wonderful sport?
thanks RGF.

Ask him why we are being made to pay for the wrongs of this and previous governments and if a license is imposed and people do turn away from the sport .. what innovative ways will he think of to tax those left to make up the lost revenue!!!

agree with rgf does he have any idea how much the average shore angler spends in a year all ready!!!

Oh right, I think its more aimed towards regulating the industry so the guards are monitored and to ensure they are paid fairly . I am sure in past lots of guards were paid below the minimum wage, the registration scheme might help prevent this? Should also ensure you dont get dodgy charaters working as security guards. From experience this used to happen a lot in the past.
we were all police checked before and they basically just do the same check but charge us 190 quid instead of the tenner it used to cost also as of march this year we need a cctv operators licence another 190quid and theres more dodgy people working for the police force than there ever was in security lol

I hope your joking mate, I have been to loads of "inside jobs" involving dodgy guards in my time. Hopefully the registration thing should sort this out a bit.

Yes there are dodgy people in the police same as any other job but there a very very small minority. They do however get lots of media attention when exposed, perhaps why you thing there are more than there actually is?

Sless ask him

have you ever considered banning all trawl fishing for three years - (we can import frozen at the same price, sometimes cheaper) but then paying the trawlermen a yearly wage based on the average catch last year - which after all would be money in the bank(some months these guys cant get out at all ,so they would be better off - then the stocks would be able to replenish the stocks themselves - i was told mother nature would need 3 years by a Boffin at Durham University,he went through the `mechanics` behind his theory ,and it sounded right

we pay farmers for not farming ,so why not pay trawlermen ??

and they could use the trawl boats for pleasure fisherman ,to make a few more pounds

Its a bit long winded Sless ,but i am sure you get the Gist of it - and he must know some Boffins to check the 3 year thing

Ta

I know it seems arrogant i dont mean it too but I am sure mr Milliband will be able to (if you ask him nicely) take some more of my hard earned cash from me as a bloke who choses to be single and have no kids and give it to you so that it makes you better of and buys your vote for labour at the next election.

Labour frustrates me so much as all they do for me is take take take and never give me anything at all back. They are orientated towards low income families which is fair enough but why should i constantly pay for the lifestyle choices of others? I chose not to have kids so i can live the life i want to, I pay for it myself, so why should others not pay for the lifestyle they choose?

I will probably get slated for this post but dont get me wrong I have sympathy for those who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own and are genuinely needy i just get annoyed by the many many people i see who regard it as a lifestyle choice (almost a profession) to sponge off the state at the expense of others.

I am not referring to anyone on here just the general state of our disgrace of a country!
it is not a lifestyle choice m8 lost a high paying job when my kids got taken of ther mam & left with me!!

As Graham has already asked, what do these questions have to do with fishing.

Maybe if I try to ask on Grahams behalf it would help, I doubt it but I will try.

If you have any questions you would like to ask Mr. Miliband about fishing then please post them here.

If it is not about fishing then please don't bother. I will go through this thread tomorrow and delete anything that is not fishing related. If you have a problem with that then please get in touch with Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield in the morning and they will sort out your problems.

Jim.

Don't blame you for doing what you're going to do Jim but thanks for allowing us to let off steam. Shows the feelings of the members and often the opportunity to go fishing is tied up with other non fishing criteria.

Sless, if you get the chance could you ask him why the commercials are pandered to even when their activities in many people's opinions will very quickly lead to the complete disappearance of Cod from our waters. On the other hand we are being asked to begin paying more money for greater restriction on what we are involved in - a sport / hobby / tradition that has loads of great things associated with it, An intimate appreciation of our coastline and wildlife, an opportunity to relax in peace alone or with like minded friends, the technical challenges of casting and rig tying, wreck drifting and tackle choice, the connections it allows us to make with our kids and other young people away from the problems associated with urban life and commercial pressure. The chance it gives many of us to continue learning and benefit from the experience and stories of anglers older than ourselves. The sheer pleasure of getting home to a cup of tea after enduring sometimes horrendous conditions and demanding treks to get to our marks - And on the odd occasion the complete and utter total buzz the act of actually catching one of the blighters.

You might like to add that Sea anglers contribute vastly more to the economy than the commercial white fish industry, I think its 100's of millions v's a billion plus.

It's fecking madness

My guess is it has something to do with voices of a little gang of professional commercial lobbyists representing the few remaining big boys being heard by The Politicians on account of them hanging out in the same sleazy spots (Parliament and that) the word coming out of working mens clubs and canteens is NEVER listened to because they are NEVER there to hear it.

Cheers, let me know what he says ;)

Excellent mate very well put !!! ;)

Hi Graham, could you please ask:

"if it all goes t*ts up on us and, in 3 years from now there is little or no change, will there be any provision for sea anglers to challenge the governments incompetence?"

Cheers mate and good luck on the day
