Rays Bream !!

have a look at my album, got a pic of 1 on marsden beach, washed up,i mean i caught it,haha, this is the 1st time ive heard of them feeding or gettin caught, ive seen loads of these fish washed up at marsden/camelsy,they were getting washed up on irish coast at first in 09/10

nice big fish there, well done. where do people mean when they say lynemouth? i know the area because i'm from ellington and i've fished at cresswell a few times just behind the icecream shop. is it just further down the shore line where all the sea coal gets washed up?

Usually the lads referring to Lynemouth mean the Lyneburn section of beach around the Alcan power station, which can mean anywhere from just north of the Beacons all the way upto Bog Hall rocks. Decent views on google earth etc.
Cheers

There's tons of marks on your doorstep Baz, but being new to the sea means you've got to find out the marks name, location and then which conditions are best to producing fish at that particular mark. Knowing this info is paramount to catching something decent and is why the majority of sea angler's keep a diary of the fishing trips and conditions, so they can then refer back to this valuable information as not all of it can be remembered. I'm sure sooner or later we'll meet up on the beach and I can give you a few pointers of the marks around Cresswell, Private Beach, Bog Hall and Lyne burn. Then again I could do with a few pointers myself as I'm not catching to many right now!

thanks for the advice, I think I'll start a diary. after reading a few catch reports i'm going to try some other bait's aswell because at the moment i'm only using rag.

Ragworm can be a good bait on the sand but there are lots more baits out there to try, if you go into Angler's United in Lynemouth and ask Gary what bait he has and what's rated on the nearby beaches I'm sure he'll put you right.
Catch ya soon...

It tasted very similar to rainbow trout and was quite nice, (oven baked) shared with the family. Hoping to get out at the weekend , was thinking bottom of the stairs at old hartley on around high tide mark but not sure if it would be too snaggy for my budget rod sonik sks ?

Strange that they beach every year between November and Feb now, i have never seen one in the flesh but then again i dotn beach fish.

Anyone tried eating one? what they like?

if it is the same fish i am thinking of its known as 'bawal hitam' in malaysia its coated in flour salt and pepper fried til its crispy with some sort of sauce on it ....i like it....only wish i caught it so i can try it ...we call it black pomfret over there ..it certainly looks like it and wikipedia seems to think so too tho they call atlantic pomfret.....til i catch one i would not be able to confirm

Heres one i had a year or two ago
