Last couple of nights i have walked by the bank of the Wear. I am finding so much discarded tackle and litter its shocking. I know this isn't all fishermen , but, 30-40 yds of monofiliment certainly is. OK this isnt a catch report , this is a plea for people to tidy up after themselves and respect and preserve what we have. Please post here unless you disagree. Thursday evening i found a flounder attached to a broken off 3oz lead . Thats the first time I have caught a flounder with my bare hands . Shame I didn't have my camera he was pretty to watch swimming from the shallows when i released him.

couldnt agree more, some of the more fished marks are disgusting with discarded line ,bottles and general rubbish .We need to start looking after what we have or we will lose it.

couldnt agree more either,it will be alot worse when the makerel come in as well!how hard could it be to stick your rubbish in a bag and take it home!

Agree with everything being said it is getting worse, walked south shields pier couple of weeks ago which has bins on it and i was still finding cartons lying about with fishing bait still in,bin was only 20 metres away

aye .....agree there....i do my best to take stuff with me ....if there is leftover bait that i wont use and no one to give it too....then i will tip it into the sea....crisp packets etc goes back in my seat box ....so does old /damaged rigs...

anglers have no idea how close they came to loosing Blyth pier, please keep everywhere tidy, if we loose venues because of the mess we leave, under health and safety we have absolutely no come back.

I,ve fished the glass centre, roker Pier and rathouse and its embarassing to see the rubbish which so called anglers leave behind. When other people are just taking a stroll they must think all anglers are the same it gets to the point where I have picked a lot of other peoples rubbish up and binned it with my own.I would think the Rathouse is probably the worst place for this with disgarded beer cans, tackle, bait paper, plastic bags ...its sheer ignorance and laziness as there are rubbish bins close by.the other thing that gets my back up is people who decide to have a little bonfire whilst fishing-destroying the wooden seats supplied by the council for everyone to use ,although the council have seen the light and replaced the seats with metal ones, also the people who have fires at the glass centre over night who have completely destroyed a wall with constantly setting fires .God forbid you telling any of these people as you only end up with a mouthful of abuse or worse!
ROLL ON MACKERAL SEASON........NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid it's same story wherever you go to fish now, it doesn't matter if the sea or freshwater fishing.

I always seem to find someone elses rubbish, usually bag it and take it home to bin properly.

sometimes it just makes me mad!

must admit when i was a young un, i would just cut old line and chuck it, now im 23 and grown up one thing i hate in general is litter.

also, i wrap all my old line round my hand, take it off and cut it up and bin it.

Thanks all of you for posting. The longer this is near the top of the shore catch reports forum the more people will have a chance to think about it. Like some of you I see no harm in picking up other peoples litter while i am out except it shouldnt be still there in the first place.

just wait until mackeral season is in full flood... then piers become washed in empty daylight packets, cans and dead fish... disgusting

Which is why (and sorry if this sounds cynical) posts like this are a waste of pixels. I'll wager that most if not all the regular posters on here are lads (and lasses) who clean up after themselves and don't leave discarded line / hooks / bait wrappers all over the place and only keep what they will eat / freeze and the rest goes back.

The worst place I have witnessed for rubbish etc is the Glass Centre, in fact it amazes me that the lads in Resort Services are so friendly and helpful when you phone them up if you consider the disgusting mess the sub-humans who chuck baits (I refuse to call them anglers or fishermen) leave behind them. But none of them will read this thread, and if they did they wouldn't care; the politics of the individual (something all main parties are at fault for over the last 30 years) is so entrenched that any attempt to get them to clean up their filth will be met with obscenities at best and a knife in the ribs at worst for "disrespecting" them.

Richie at least you have learned at a young age, a great deal of the rubbish is left by numpties a lot older than yourself, and a lot is left by some very experienced anglers.

i have been sea fishing since the early seventies when i was a young teenager and as far as i can see nothing has changed, there was just as much crap left on the piers and beaches by anglers then as there is now and as for the mackerel season with its chavs and bad behavior, really it was just as bad then as it is now[except there was a lot more dead fish lying around] don't know what the answer to this problem is but what i do know it aint going to change fast no matter how much we gripe about it on this forum

Last year i was on the west coast near the isle of whithorn you should of seen the s**t i picked up there when i was fishing. Among the rocks their was old discarded tackle, beer bottles crisp packets all kinds of crap it will get worse once the macky numptees crawl out from the woodwork.

Ok it might not be me bagging litter , seems there are others who do it too :) thats great news. Richie thank you I really like your post and hope you encourage your friends to do the same.
God I sound old lol.

boils my p**s when i see the amount of rubbish some people leave lying around our rivers and coast,i always bag any of my rubbish and dispose of it accordingly, ive even started picking other peoples litter up!!! its not hard to tidy up after your self!:o
