Returning to sea angling

Hi Everyone
I`m returning back to my sea angling roots after about 10yrs.Been looking at tackle ect online and things seem similar to what i had back then (a Zippy n 6500).
I have lots of questions but mostly i`m not sure what rod n reel combo to look for (mint 2nd hand or new )......I like the sound of the 6500 hi speed mag but what to match it with ........choices so far are greys apollo extreme , century kompressor or tip tornado , conoflex or a zippy but i`m unsure which are the better heavy ground codding rods .....any thoughts please lads ?

Cheers
Martin

wellcome to the site and wellcome back to fishing there are a load of good stuff out there and some great lads on here to help m8

welcome to the forum mate, the century komp s is a good rod, it will be ok for the rough stuff but its not a bad rod for clean to mixed to as for a reel i dont think you can beat either a 515/525 mag2 or even a mint 525 supermag or mag extra. i would stay away from the 6500 high speed if u want it for fishing rough ground over winter.

regards andy

Welcome back mate have a look at the century kompressor ss i own 1 and i would never part with it lovely action and will hamdle most conditions
The saltist reels are total work horses and are still quite small for a rough ground rod

Thanks for the welcome lads and to Andy - yes of course you`re right about the 6500`s mate, they are casting reels not rough ground reels. The slosh30 was the reel of choice when i last fished for heavy rock fishing so i`ll probably look at one of those again although there`s a load of choice out there .....the penn reels had a bad rep for overruns but i dont know if thats still the case.
I can see myself ending up with 2 rod/reel setups haha but not at the same time....prices have definatley rocketed :(

David does the higher price of the saltist justify itself over the slosh ?

I wouldnt really like to say mate as ive never used one although ive heard nothing but good reports for them although i have the slosh 30 and i absolutley love mine has never batted an eyelid reel will handle anything i can throw at it

The saltist does have a metal spool where as the slosh i think is ceraimic

Good bloke is Harry, taught me to cast down on Maiden Castle fields about 25 years ago. I still remember the look on his face when I told him I had WD40 in my reel bearings (very green 17 yr old at the time), probably similar to my face when he popped his car bonnet, took out the dip stick and dripped some engine oil into the bearings to make them usable

I'm just down the road in Pity Me, same as H just ask.
