Had a few hours on Roker this evening for only my third trip out of 2013. Arrived just before 4pm to find the pier packed but managed to squeeze in to a spot just past the second set of steps. Got set up with two rods, one with big baits cast out and the other scratching close in.
Things were very quiet and people started to drift away complaining about blanking. After a couple of hours the scratching rod gave a good rattle which resulted in this little feller to save the blank:
As dusk descended things picked up a little, nothing special or of any size but I did manage three little codlets, this one probably being the biggest:
With nothing at all showing an interest in the big baits I decided to make a move down to the Barrier for the last hour or so. First chuck with the scratching rod saw another good rattle and this on the pier:
Had another Pollack shortly afterwards and that was that. Not a bad session, 6 fish and three different species though no sign of any Whiting or decent sized codling. All the fish came to the close in scratching rod and a small chunk of Bluey for bait, lugworm and mussel weren't touched all day.
