Sad sight

Well every year i see the same sad sight and i am sure alot of you will know what i am on about.

I wont mention the mark but went for a walk with the dog before the rain started last night and seen the june-september stacks of dead unwanted mackerel.

Why cant people put them back? if mackerel shoals are close in you can catch 50-100+ a session easy, very little skill in it. I love fishing for mackerel on light gear and fish hours after i have caught what i want for the winter but always put the rest back.(with out touching them if possible)

Had a word with this 50+ man and 2 sons last night about why they had kept so many (3 bags full and a stack on the ground) and are still killing them. Answer was "its good fun and why should we put them back".

I then asked what he was going to do with them...guess.....

"for the cat"...that must be one fat cat now then

Anyway i rant over the same thing every year so thats this years over with.

Such a bloody shame it is.

Totaly agree with you mate, i went fishing for macky at the weekend,, took 5 on saturday, tea for me and me ma and da and 1 to tip my hook with the next day and took 4 on sunday, did those in a vinager brine (like roll mops just not rolled) and have been having them for lunch all week. Will post the recipe for them later the fillets are lush! anyway back to the point you must have a cat shelter to need that many fish, and you know they'll be back out next week!!

why do people go makky bashing ,anybody using a set of daylights etc 6 hooks are after a load but why, excuse its for the freezer for winter bait how many do they bloody want same as the whiting in the winter. everything is competitive now i caught 160 talk to someone else i got more than that i got 200 yest morn what a load of crap, if you get a load of makky by the time you get home and get them PROPERLY prepared for the freezer they will of gone off , you need to gut them quick and get them in cool boxes with as much ice in as you can get.
nothing more relaxing than fishing at barrier at roker with float late on in evening when makky chase sprat in.

Licence Fee?

Licence Fee?

I know it's a taboo subject etc and I'm not overly keen on the idea either...

But just reading about the stupidity of a minority surely must raise the validity of introdcing a Sea angling licence.

At least it may get rid of the plums that have no respect for what they are doing....

Make it the same as a TV or a Gun Licence - if you hold a fishing rod you have to declare it...an honest, respectable angler would sign up, no questions asked - after all it's not a huge amount of money to what is spent on bait and tackle over the year anyway.

Just a crazy idea I know......

Well you just have to look at the report in the catch reports section of the mackeral up at Dunstanburgh!

I've never really been a fan of the sea fishing licence but for what its going to cost its probably worth it and if it deters a few of these tools from fishing then thats fine by me,theres quite a few fish during the winter as well

Roll on the license? Like these numpties would buy one anyway! And if they didnt whats the chances of the authorites fining them or taking them to court? I cant see them going up shields pier in the middle of summer, theyd have to have balls the size of basketballs to take on some of the idiots we get on there!

rod licence

rod licence

if rod licences are introduced surely bailiffs would have to be employed to police the coast??? how would it work

I certainly would not fancy the job as a bailiff for the sea license ....just knowing every angler carries a knife would be enough to put me off.

In a copy of the response by the EA to the marine bill I noticed their comments on the introduction of a sea license are as follows.

1. They are in a position to sell them if needs be.

2. They are able to enforce the license given additional manpower (funding)

3. They support the introduction of an angling license but also commented that anglers should be given a better deal before its introduction.

Nothing suprising in their reply.

There is not a lot that can be done to stop this annual makkie slaughter by the masses and as has been said ...these people must have huge cats!

There is a commercial limit in the north sea of 1000 tons and it makes me wonder just how many fall to anglers in the june to september slaughter.

I have heard of the same thing happening whenever Bass appear in any numbers so if you are lucky enough to find any good bass marks keep it quiet.

Cheers
Dave
