Your Quote "I can count on one finger and thumb how many cod i have had and thats a big fat zero.I have varied my venues too".
And that I suppose, is the Magazines fault - not that you were possibly not experienced enough or possibly tactfully unaware of how to find/catch the fish/ or maybe just unlucky - but the fish are out there - the North east coast is not the barren wilderness some would think it to be - maybe just maybe, not everyone who fishes or catches fish -posts the details on websites. Mmm an interesting thought.
I think if you look at the club catches across the North East this year as well as previous ones you will see a steep decline in fish being caught and not just cod. Yes lots of people don't post on websites, but go into your local tackle shop and I can guarantee you if a fish was caught in the locale the night before, the tackle shop owners know all about it. And the reports from them are thin on the ground also!
As I have said in another post, I was speaking to a match angler the other night who has won the Alnwick Sea Angling club, title many , many times, and he definitely thinks it's a barren wilderness, and I wouldn't say he's inexperienced or tactfully unaware!
The fish across the North East, seem to be in small shoals, that on one night or another can produce a canny bag for some, but these nights are few and far between and not being experienced by the VAST majority of anglers.
I gave up club fishing last year, but still take an interest in what the local lads are doing, mainly because the fishing was so poor. The ASAC fish the same time every week and most of the time conditions would be flat. This year I have ONLY gone out when there has been a decent sea, and have had 4 cod from 20 odd sessions.
