I like sea angler and enjoy the read more often than not. I've just bought the latest edition and again, after all the uproar on this site and they prob had numerous complaints it has a headline of 'COD BOOM!' - It's never been easier to get a BITE!- We show u how! LOL  Now it prob tells me inside again where this is going on cos i haven't looked yet but still....

Sea Angler is a magazine designed to sell goods. It does not surprise me they are spouting this rubbish. I and all the anglers on this forum know it not true-but if they told the truth well they would not sell the magazine.
Take for an example of the last month-i have been fishing 6 days/nights. I can count on one finger and thumb how many cod i have had and thats a big fat zero.I have varied my venues too.
Mick.

Mick, maybe u should read it like me as its claiming its going to show us how, when there not there! lol

re Fishing Magazine

Apparently they have had the best catches for years down Kent way.

I would not believe a word that is posted in that magazine, i know someone who did a feature for them at Hendon years ago and they were asked to catch some fish to take to the photo shoot ?

disgrace its likes of sea angler printing ****e like that that makes the quotas get lifted to allow more catches ,and its just happened it makes my **** boil, what bullsheet off bullsheeters

try somewhere else mick i have done so and found it helps moving around i know hendon and roker pier is me favourite but i have had good fish elsewhere
but keep up the good work mate

The fishing must be awsome down Kent and Dover at the min. I read last month that a match on Dover pier was won with something like 35kg(roughly 70lb) and its got another where the winner only had 50lb this time! However, u ask ourselves, the lads on the west coast, IOM, etc...and they'll all say worst year ever. I can't believe they printed it on the front cover AGAIN!

And that I suppose, is the Magazines fault - not that you were possibly not experienced enough or possibly tactfully unaware of how to find/catch the fish/ or maybe just unlucky - but the fish are out there - the North east coast is not the barren wilderness some would think it to be - maybe just maybe, not everyone who fishes or catches fish -posts the details on websites. Mmm an interesting thought.

So its the Anglers?! I've done pretty well for me early season catching nearly 40 cod this season size mate from sept-now. That doesnt include fishing rivers and piers cos i don't. Yes, i go out alot. I've had 3 in the last 6-8 weeks but havent bothered much cos its a waste of time. I don't post my catches on here. I've had numerous blanks and the fishing has been awful! If yr that confident fish the club matches or opens and if yr lucky enough to catch A fish u will prob win! I know the top anglers are struggling badly and think its the worst sea fishing season there has ever been. Are u going to tell them theres plenty of fish around?! Cos if u were a top angler u wouldnt be posting a statement like that. Thats how bad its been.

I know, i'm running to get my gear together now for a quick sesh cos the beaches are full of them! Out tomorrow though, Daylight fishing....which normally coincides with a blank!

come on lads, your just trying to put the none north east lads off coming here fishing, we all know you need a wheelbarrow with you at most marks these days to get your catch home :D:D:D:D

THE BEST FISHING FOR FISHING FOR 50 YEARS , MY DAD STARTED BACK UP ABOUT OCTOBER LAST YEAR AFTER ABOUT 25 YEARS OUT ,HE'S BEEN OUT A GOOD FEW TIMES AND NOT CAUGHT A GREAT DEAL ,HE SAYS TO ME WHAT A PILE OF S**T ,HE REMEMBERS PULLING THE ODD 10 POUNDER IN OFF THE BLAST BEACH AND VERY RARELY BLANKING ,I DONT THINK IT WILL BE LONG BEFORE HIS GEAR IS ON EBAY..LOL:D

The way i see fishing at the moment is i compare it with when i was about15yrs old to now-i am now nearly 48.
When i went fishing off the Middleton or the Heugh as a kid i remember all the old hands in the top corners pulling in cod left right and centre-i remember on old boy call Ronny. used to come up on a blue colour bike. Some older anglers on here will remember him
too. Used to pull in fish at 5lb all afternoon. Blokes even caught Cod off the side of the Heugh using scarborough reels.
I lost interest for a long time and have recently returned after fancying taking up the sport again.
In my opinion the cod have been decimated by over fishing-i know this by what i have seen. (I did fish a compo recently at Folkstone too) An example is Seaham yesterday-How can four rods fishing multiple baits for seven hours pull in one scraggy second hand tommy codling.
Another example is when i went out on my uncles boat as a lad. We even caught haddock then.
No the fishing is dire at the moment but i will still be back-i even found a straggler which avoided the nets at Steetly and broke my own record.
Mick.

I think if you look at the club catches across the North East this year as well as previous ones you will see a steep decline in fish being caught and not just cod. Yes lots of people don't post on websites, but go into your local tackle shop and I can guarantee you if a fish was caught in the locale the night before, the tackle shop owners know all about it. And the reports from them are thin on the ground also!
As I have said in another post, I was speaking to a match angler the other night who has won the Alnwick Sea Angling club, title many , many times, and he definitely thinks it's a barren wilderness, and I wouldn't say he's inexperienced or tactfully unaware!
The fish across the North East, seem to be in small shoals, that on one night or another can produce a canny bag for some, but these nights are few and far between and not being experienced by the VAST majority of anglers.
I gave up club fishing last year, but still take an interest in what the local lads are doing, mainly because the fishing was so poor. The ASAC fish the same time every week and most of the time conditions would be flat. This year I have ONLY gone out when there has been a decent sea, and have had 4 cod from 20 odd sessions.

I know when we moved to Hartley in the late 70's and dad used to take us to blyth harbour fishing it was rare not to catch anything and what we did catch was always a decent size, had nothing there now for years bar crabs and very tiny whiting/coalies.
