just been down the front sea has dropped off a lot but still big, many marks North of the Tyne should now be fishable if you like having driving rain in your face, sure there will be plenty sheltered marks for you to fish.

hopefully im out tonight thats if my m8 has the balls to go out in this or im stuck in again:(

Yer i been down the coast and the north pier is awash with white water 200 yards plus off Tynemouth beach. Be safe if your mad to be out in the wind and rain anyway :)

Just been for a drive from st marys to tynemouth, sea looks wild. Should fish well when it dies down.
Probably unfishable now so I'm going to sit in the warm house and wait for the second that it isn't so mental.!

Winds switching south west tomorow, I'm going to lock myself in the house till then.
Spend all day making rigs and driving our lass crazy! :D

twice that size yesterday and day before "frightening"

It just goes to show how conditions can change so quickly, an old hand like Alan Charlton saying its dropped off and should be fishable at 10am in the morning and by 1-2pm its massive and dangerous again. It shows just how volotile the sea can be.
Just to add, i was fishing Frenchies last night and noticed that the light on Shields pier had gone out, sea is either massive and knocked it out or the Port of Tyne havent got ten bob to stick in the meter.

Its frightening when its massive, the power of those waves is unreal.

I remember fishing Shields pier about 4 years ago with Brashy and the sea was already big and building from the south east. When the tide turned it started getting very naughty we were fishing the round end, the sound of a wave hitting the base of the pier is unmistakable its a loud thudump, the wall of water infront of me was scary enough but the weight of it coming down from above a split second later was a good enough message for me to make a sharp exit. A valuable lesson learned.

I know exactly what you experienced there!
About 15ish year ago happened to me and me mates when were young lads.
The thump of the wave on the pier founds hit our stomach and time seemed to stand still...
We all looked up in slow motion to see the horseshoe falls above our head come crashing down sweeping most our gear away in what seemed like a long slow time.
I dived on my seat box with both my knees and grabbed the lighthouse door bars with both arms like my life depended on it.
We lost a bit of gear but were lucky to escape with our lives.

Came from nowhere.

Had the same experience mate, like standing in a giant shower that last's forever

the wind has dropped off and the sea is free to lift, can't fool around with the elements, but still not as big as the other day and there will be places to fish, The Bible, Whitley Beach now the wind has dropped, two good shots should be Skitters and Paddle Mare Hole at North end at low tide, Newbiggin Bay, plus some other marks round Newbiggin, old penny Ferry landing in the Blyth, or Middens Rocks (be careful they will be slippy) just get yourself behind some nice big skeers that are giving shelter to the fish. Everybody must be out as there is nobody on here, or could you all be watching "Strictly"

Cant think of many on the south side, was too big for frenchies last night and other than north row and possibly boaties bay then most will head for the brigade hut. Stay safe if any of you head out.

The old North pier (opposite end to the rathouse) would have been good tonight if it hadnt been fenced off. The bay between the piers will have fished though.

Some big fish get in amongst the kelp beds in the bay opposite Roker pier.
