Shields open

I don't think we should specualte as we where not there, the committee lads no doubt spoke to the lad and then made a decission with all the facts, there might to more to the story than we have heard on the rumour mill.

I am just new to this South Shields pier fishing and to be honest it really pees me off the locked gates. Fair enough the first time a few weeks ago when the stone masons were on and divers. Mind they did,nt mind the fishermen as the guy on the gate said as he opened it for one old guy who was a regular on a push bike.
Next time i went it was shut again still working on the stone. Last time locked no stoneworkers. I was told it was because of wet paint on the railings. What a joke. I felt sorry for all of the members of the public out with the kids on a sunny Sunday having to turn away from what would have been a lovely walk up the pier.
As to the lad being early whats wrong with that. I,ve climbed round the gate three times now and its not that easy. Last time sea was flat as a pancake.
Mick.
ps thats why i never really enter comps cos of all the rule bending.

Unlucky to the lad, nightmare.Had a walk along the river chocca at church bank, saw one lad pull a decent whiting in there.went up to hebburn one lad with his son i believe had 2 codling size, seemed to be a lot of just undersize whiting showing up.

yes well go on all slag the south shields fishing club off,for running the 63rd annual fishing club open, plenty people fished today, most obeyed the rules, the committee in the shields club had a meeting and came to the conclusion the lad had went on the pier, before the gate was officialy opened, there fore disqualified
what would you's think if it was you with the second heaviest fish

thismis my opinion and nothing to do with the south shieds fishing club

i know what your saying sless but i thought the pier is a public pier and therefore is a legitamate mark like i said what if the guy had went on the pier yesterday when the pier was open and stayed all night would he still be disqualified as he never climbed around a locked gate

the pier was closed to the public and was only going to be opened at 8am to anglers
8am was the time that the pier got the go ahead
not a minute before hand

personally think its a bit harsh on the lad when the pier was open to fish, like people say what would happen if he went on when it was open and stayed all night my point is the pier was open any way and he went to secure his spot as did all the people who went to jarra and hebburn if thats the case every body should leave the new crown at 8am on the day

yes but nuke, the pier was only declared open by the pier master at 8 am,nothing to do with the shields club at all,it was his decision on the day,as form jarrow and hebburn, they were always in the boundarys

Interesting one this....I never fished the comp but still would like to voice a slight opinion if I may.

If the lad accessed the pier when the gate was open say the day before...and was not informed that he had to get off as it was closing, and then fished all night and stopped and waited for the comp to start at the official time. Then i see no reason for the disqualification.

However if there is or was a dispute about the fish landed during the comp not matching up to what was witnessed, then you would have no other alternative to deem it an illegal move.

Were the fish caught during official match times? were the fish witnessed? Did the lad go onto the pier whilst it was officially open ? If any of the answers are no then it is the right result.

Unfortunately

i fished marsden beach in the open today. caught one whiten 35cm. not much caught around me, one lad had couple flatties next to me, nothing massive. it was a lovely day for fishing and i really enjoyed myself. i managed 15 casts, all lovely juicy numbers on punnel pullys 4/0. i was after one cod to the value of £600 and wasnt interesed in anything else. perhaps i should have tried elsewhere, was toying with whitburn all weekend, wish i had of gone there now doh!

its a cracking event, my first of a few more hopefully.
the situation with the disqualified guy has put a little dampner of the day unfortunately. the majority out there want to win fair and if they dont win they want a winner who deserves it. i only had the rule book for my information, the wording in there is a touch vague perhaps to one who doesnt do this comp regulalry. as i see it the pier was closed to the public today and according to the rules all who fished there and weighed in should be disqualified. it is irrelevant if the keyholder opened the gates for fisherman, it is still closed to the public. if there had been a prior arrangement to open the gates then this should have been noted within the rules.

my thoughts..the lad with the 9lber should have been given the title..

very nice fish but unlucky on the decission :o

so who won it then after all this ?

aye cleadon club matches its like been at the starting line of the racky races :D

because it would be like brands hatch 300 anglers racing to their spots,
at the end of the day the pier was shut
some one deceided to climb round the gates
he was out of bounds
end of story

as far as im concerned( my opinion only)
but im not on the committee of the shields club
