Short session on the river

Been busy lately getting our new holiday cottage in Whitby habitable so haven't been out much. Managed a short 3 hour session from low up on the river yesterday and plenty of fish. Codling and whiteys with 4 or 5 size codling up to 40cm in the mix . All returned. Just straight blow lug on a 2 hook flapper down the middle and pretty much a bite every cast.

Where abouts marra ?, never fished the tyne yet but that is the plan this weekend.Any advice on any spots at minute be good :)

Hi mate, I prefer to fish up the river at Hebburn and Gateshead, but the walkway at Shields can also be good. On the North side I have only fished Smiths Dock (also good) but I think there are plenty other marks. Loads of info about the various marks north and south bank if you scout about on the site.

Thanks marra will take a look, the beaches are no good at min and the wear is slow as is roker pier.Had a look at the walkway online the other day may try there or where you were. Thanks for the info

if your just pleasure fishing ?would imagine most river marks {tyne} will be mowded off on sunday,as its the south shields open.good luck on your session.

Aye pleasure, the old man is just getting back into fishing after a gap of 20 odd years and i wanted to try somewhere where he has a chance of jumping straight back in

there used to be a hole in the fence at the west end of smiths but i looked the other day and it had been mended. there may be another way in but i couldn't see one. well, not without a ladder anyway!

The holes don't stay closed for long :) The last time I went through 2 weeks ago there was people on walking dogs etc.. There must be an easier way in.. There's a track down the bank so people must be getting in over the fence on the north side. It's a damn sight easier than getting on the pier!
