i have just got a slosh 30 in a swop and i turn the brakes off and it sill sound like the on :s but u can tell there not on.. help any one :) ?

Hi you can't turn the brakes on and off on a slosh you can only remove or replace them. The only thing you can turn on an off is the spool click.or you can tighten and slacken the spool

aww okay .. so how fast would it be if i remove my brakes ?

all depends on your bearings and what oil you use and how tight you have your spool. Open up the left side plate and you will see 2 prongs on the spool, with tiny little drum type things, either plastic or a little fibre stuff... them are your break blocks on the prongs.

They work by centrifugal force, as the spool accelerates it pushes break blocks (the little drum things) out to the side. The edge of these rub against the rim on the cage, causing friction and slowing your spool stopping/reducing it over running while its accellerating and reaching a stable speed.

Just go down a field or the beach with someone who knows a bit about the reel, open it up and have a luck 1st though.

hope that ramble helps... even just a little

Both of my SL30SH reels click very slightly on retrieve, even with the spool clicker fully disengaged, so perhaps that's all this is and, therefore, nothing to worry about.

On the other hand, if it's screaming its knackers off when you cast or sounds like a gattling gun when you retrive, a visit to your local tackle shop may be in order...

I can second what Pursues said my Slosh30 makes this noise too. You should also make sure the spool click is properly disengaged as they can stick a wee bit. A good clean and a dab of fine grease on the click mechanism should sort that problem out. If you take all of the brake blocks out you will get birdies.

thanks every one and i have just looked there non in so i greased parts of the reel up and going to try it soon ... if its the same i think i will let the shop have a bash at fixing it :)
