I'm looking for a boat reel with a level wind, but i don't want a huge thing, something a little bigger than say a penn 535. Any advice would be great, or if anyone is selling one i'd be interested to hear what you have..Cheers...Chris..:)

have a look on e bay for a penn 320 gti thats what i use most of the time and it a cracking reel thats what i used down in weymouth and it handled a 68lb conger but its also great for fishing up here!also use a penn 4/0 which is a bit big imho!

The magnetex and the 320 GTI, both look like good reels, i'll pop down NESA and have a look at both at the weekend....cheers :)

Chris, have a look at the Penn 320LD and the Shimano Charter Special. Both have the level wind and lever drag. The Charter Special looks the smaller of the two, both are up to the job of wreck fishing around here.

Thanks for all the replies, i've listed them and will have a look at them at the weekend in the tackle shops, i'll let you know what i choose :);)

The good old ABU 7000 with level wind the ones with the thicker side plates will hand anything in these waters, and will hold plenty braid and parts are plentiful, but i'm sure you already know all this Chris.

Take a look at the penn 209 level wind bought new for less than £50 should do the job if you dont want to brake the bank, all the write ups say they are good might try one myself as looking for something sized between my 7000 and my penn 330 gti.

I decided on the Shimano Charter Special 1000LD, due to size and reviews. Should get it Tuesday, £99 off EBAY..can't wait to try it out...:)

im also looking for a reel to go on my shakespeare tidewater 20-30lb rod, will be used for wreck fishing so if anyone has one for sale then send me a pm. thanks alan

also iv got a diawa sl175 that could do with being taken apart and cleaned, if anyone knows of anywhere i can take it to be done please let me know

How long does it take? A just been to shop at Bensham but the bloke who does it there is off for two weeks. Also would this reel be any good for the odd trip out wrecking ? And best to use braid or mono with it.
