snapped sonik rod

hey ive got a greys apollo mk2 and mines sound takes some stick off me aswell gets wacked off rocks and all sorts lol must have just been one of the better ones shipped in

sonik rods are desinged/ built and using the same blanks as grays they are the exact copy of grays rods at almost half the price (some times more than half)

the builders of these sonik rods are grays ex staff
they walked out and set up on there own
good luck to them i say

i can remember a few triplex's snaping not to long ago (reported on this site )

ive had a good look at these rods in n e t s (northeast tackle supplies) in grangetown

they seem bang on for under a £100 i may be tempted to get one myself

yeah your right untill they started getting them abroard

Well i aint gonna argue about that, except to say my mk1 apollo had its tip section snapped wghilst casting,my nitra aint and i have had the nitra about 3 years now.we can only speak as we find mate.I know a few greys rods have snapped but then again so have centurys

greys rod's are now all made of cheese and decorated with marmite

my mk1 rods (orion, pz match) seem bomb proof

went through 4 prodigy rods in as many outings, didn't even bother taking it back the last time, tip section every time, on the 2nd or 3rd ring down

my theory is that as they are machine whipped on a production line, sometimes the whipping is too tight, so when there's flex in the blank there's not enough give, so the seat of the eye puts pressure on the blank and they go pop

2 broke casting, 2 broke with fish on

mark could it be where the whipping is cut off with a blade making a cut line in the finish introducing a stress raiser ?
i think that would cause a snap no problem

divvent ask me, I'm no expert on these things! was just making a calculated guess, but its possible I suppose

Mark, they use a different method of curering the high build.
It is done under UV Light which cures in my oppinion much to quick hence the tyings are brittle.

would that enough to overly tension the legs on the rings??

just curious thats all. :)

Too tight whipping will always incorrectly tension the leg / blank relationship probably on the too tight side of things - what you need is perfectly tensioned whipping.

Even I know that ya tube :p

Mark, it is very difficult to tye the rings on too tight as the thread will snap if too much tension is applied.
Cracks occur because the high build is not flexible enough.

Even if you use a flexible high build and speed the drying process ( UV ) it will become less flexible and more brittle.

As an example take araldite rapid and the normal which are two pack epoxy resins, the normal takes much longer to harden than the rapid and is much more felxible for this reason.
(Does that makes sense)

i can see where you are coming from terry,as a tiler i sometimes use "rapid set flexible adhesive" and ordinary "flexi",the rapid set flexi does not give much flex on a floor compared to ordinary flexi, whereby sometimes you may notice the grout seems to come away from the edges of the tiles, thats because the adhesive is not flexing with the movement on the floor,so i can imagine a rod being the same
