Snobby Sea Angler Mag

I emailed Mel Russ who\'s the editor of the Sea Angler magazine a few weeks ago about the possibility of getting a few copies of pics taken by Mike Dobson, Sea Anglers photographer, while me and my mate were fishing the New Hartley Open.

After no reply (I know he read it, I asked for a receipt ;) ) I emailed him again last night. I got a not read receip this morningt, in other words he deleted it without reading it.

I spoke to Mike Dobson on the day regarding copies and he said he\'d be more than happy, but as he was copyrighted to Sea Angler, I\'d have to ask Mel Russ.

Good to see Mr Russ remembering that Joe Public who email him are the mugs who buy his magazine.

May seem like sour grapes, but a report of the open was published, with pics of the lads who were 2nd and 3rd, yet not the winner?? The winner had the nerve to ask him for copies of the pics.

Co-incidence? You decide. :(

Bad that Davy. Still, being a northerner (like myself) you should be used to shoddy reporting from a magazine with a complete bias towards the south. Us northern scum eh.

Mel Russ always looks a smug get on the photos.

i sent mel russ an email a couple of weeks ago
i got no reply
if you were offering him a free rod to try out i bet re would reply then

Noticed that myself Davey that your mug shot wasn\'t in. Will be writing to ask why. The trophies are going to the engraver soon so will be in touch to let you have it until next year.

Did you see the write up in Total Sea Fishing for May page 9. You get your picture there in a decent spread. Those were Alan Charltons photos.

Davy, your not alone there.I have tried twice to get pictures sent to me and both times my calls/e-mails were ignored(and like yourself,i know he had read them)
It is an absolute disgrace that they have put pictures of the lads who came 2nd and 3rd in there when they had a perfectly good picture of yourself.

Peter,
\"Will be writing to ask why.\"

I\'m sure we\'d ALL like to know \"why\".

Surely, if a magazine (ANY magazine), is featuring a competition, then the most important photo (as far as the \"story\" goes) is that of the winner.

For them to HAVE photos of the winner, but only publish the pix of the 2nd & 3rd places, does seem rather inept on the part of the editor.

Thanks for the plug Peter. There was no problem either giving Davy a copy, cant see why sea angler cant, especially after they have been used and they are for the persons persoanl use.

Well done anyway Davy , I would not worry about Russ anyway the people that count know what you did . On a similar topic , how many articles in BFM have been done on local boat fishing in our area . Considering there are at least four big marina\'s the coverage is shite !

Had no problem getting pics from TSF after our little expose. Only problem was they were slides and expensive to get developed.

Peter, saw the write up and photo in TSF, thanks for that Alan.

Now that I\'ve read all your comments, its made me mader than I was. I just wonder what kind of power trip this bloke is on.

On a more serious point, are Sea Angler legally entitled to keep photo\'s of someone, and not give copies of them to the individual concerned (Data protection act?)? Anyone know? I think I\'ll just keep bombarding Mr Russ if nothing else, just to get on his nerves! :P

Davey,
I take it that the magazine photographer had your permission to take your photo?

In which case, I\'m afraid the the photos ARE theirs, m8.

They are under NO obligation to provide you with copies, but it\'s only commoncourtesy that copies are made available to those photographed.

Seems that they are a bit lacking in \"common courtesy\"

why not visit their website
and mention it on their forums
if they have one

then they will have to delete it
and that wouldnt be nice would it
then everyone can see it

Thanks TC - its always afterwards you find someone who could have helped you. I actually didn\'t make any prints but I was conscious that Darren Taylor (from TSF who I wrote to) insisted that I returned them. I had no issue with this and put a thank you letter in the returned envelope to which I received an e-mail acknowledgement saying I shouldn\'t have bothered as he had forgotten all about them. Wish I\'d kept them for the book.

I stopped buying Sea Angler a couple of months ago,got sick of the same tired old format and definate bias towards the south. Bought TSF instead and its a bit better than Mr. Russ usually turns out. Vote with your pockets and purses lads and lasses !

Regards.
