South Shields 61st Open – FULL RESULTS

Maybe it's just me, but I personally wouldn't kill a fish that I wouldn't eat, or use for "pot bait", how many of you eat those fish you catch in the river? I also thought those pictures of the heaviest bags were nothing more than a carnage of unwarranted greed.

Dont you take and kill rockling whenever you can?

Terry, why does this match not have Penn points - was it not registered?

I used to always fish this open, especially when the big bags of coalies used to be in the estuary. Loved it! Just seems that the coalies are not there in the numbers they once were...

Nothing wrong with hsf matches at all - gives everyone a chance - although I do prefer heaviest bag matches...

you can always make your mind up on the day - biggest fish or biggest bag - you do have a choice....

Just seems a shame that the winner (who fished the Penn Sea League final last year at Samphire Hoe in Kent) has missed out on a shed load of points, which may have got him back in the final....

Apparently the application for penn points was a little too late, it will be penn points next year

you weighed in rocklings in cleadon club, and also the shields open in the past.

and thats not to mention what i dont no about

Deep fried Rockling is one of the best tasting fish around. It's a very clean living fish that lives and feeds along the shoreline amongst the rich waters that the tides bring in.

One heaviest fish beats a heaviest bag????.....stupid in my opinion...:o

Errm.....its me again......Gotta admit I can't remember making this post (was reminded by members of my club today ).....I think i was on the sherbits at the time I made the post but didn't want to cause a stir. However, I still think an angler who can catch many fish is just a commendable as someone who catches a single lunker. Sorry for causing a stink but....hey...who aint done daft things after a few? Oh, and I wasn't getting at any particular club.

Oh and just to get on the weighing in on fish you don't want thing.......I am not sure what the answer is......I have weighed in Wrasse and Rockling only to know they are going to be binned. This is not a comfortable thing to do.....why not exclude fish that are not considered edible? Surely no-one would consider weighing in a Hagfish?

Wrasse and Rockling are banned in the Shields open neil and have been for a couple of years now. As for your post, everybody is entitled to their own opinion and this is what makes these forums work so well.

As for the Penn points, sorry people I completely forgot to inform the powers that be, but I will try to correct this next year.

wasnt goin to get involved in this one Tony but after your last reply i couldnt resist.

Tony, you like deep fried rockling so much you forgot to take the rockling back after it had been weighed.
Come on Tony, not everybody is stupid enough to think for one minute you kill rockling for the table.

Been watching this post for awhile and it’s actually a great post as it highlights the SS&DSAC.

Many thanks Neil as you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I’d like to say the main reason why we are a heaviest fish first prize Open…its actually all about the numbers game and at the time for the SS&DSAC Open Shore Competition to survive a decision was made many years a go to change the Open Competition into a heaviest single fish winner which going by our records and the overall climate over the last 18 years or so it has been successful move and as Terry has pointed out this year was our 61st Open, which not too many clubs can boast.

Having such a fantastic geographical boundary i.e. river marks, pier marks, beaches and cliff marks, this appeals to many anglers of all abilities and ages, we have also been the forerunners in many prizes to which other clubs have copied to their success as well.

So in a nut shell a heaviest fish first prize Open is better than no Open.

Cheers
Stephen
