St Peters basin, "No Fishing Signs"

I have been in touch with the Port of Tyne Authority reguarding the signs, they basically knew nothing about them. I went to St Peters baisn and photographed the sign and sent it to the PTA as they requested, have just recieved this reply

Thanks for the photo, as you say someone must have went to great trouble.

Suffice to say I am reasonably sure that the sign has not been erected by the Port of Tyne Authority.

As to the legality or otherwise of such apparent misrepresentation I make no comment, but I can say that, similar to its erection, its removal would not involve the Port of Tyne authority.

got me suspicions that its 'one of the neighbours' that sticks them up, as they were only ever in one bit, guess they're not keen on the hoi polloi making the place look untidy.

In fact I could hazard a guess as to which one as well.... the one that has no fishing signs in his window!

obviously the hoi polloi are very civic spirited though, and dispose of them thoughtfully when they pull em down again

for what its worth, the marina themselves don't give a damn about folks fishing there

think whoever it was could be in a bit of bother. When i was there a woman came to the window and saw what I was doing, she was straight on the phone.

similar happened on the mersey, in this case we had `security` saying "urinate away your tresspassing", in true scouse way the reply was to `go forth and self impregnate` as there were no byelaws or anything else in force, again it was someone who did not like the idea of the `little people` below them spoiling thier views

hahaha, they are all stuck up around that way, living in their posh apartments that are in byker / walker!
used to work right next to there many moons ago, even had a bit of a sneeky fish at lunch time or after work.

just continue to fish, if they have been put up with no authority, then they cant move you on. You will soon find out which tosser had put them up.

just tell them you have a permit to fish there, play them at their own game :D

best of to move a wee bit down river and fish pottery bank, always seemd to fish better from that mark.

I can assure you they have nothing to do with the SFC as nothing has been mentioned at any of the meetings.

The only other official bodies could be the council ( via a byelaw) that would have been advertised or the enviromental agency who control fishing in the river. The EA would have clearly marked official signs.

Cheers
Dave

What if you lived there and some tosser was leaving line, hooks, old bait, and general sh88..what would you say and my sister lives there so be careful with you words!!

they should not be leaving litter, you can be fined for that, and they should not make any noise late at night, they can be moved on for that or fined.

it is the same old story, the few spoiling it for others, especially for the disabled and young anglers that use that venue. If your sister or others want to do something about the yob element they can feel free, I have no sympathy for them.

to be fair, the bit at st pete's where I'd seen the signs, there's a litter bin right there, and as yet I've not seen any of the usual crap that gets left behind by anglers

those that fish there re either taking it away with them or binning it, and should be applauded for doing so

I suspect the signs that were put up were done so by a few residents that don't like people spoiling there view or using the walkway.

I've had a couple of 'discussions' with a resident there about parking my car, despite the fact I've a boat moored in the marina

can't have all and sundry making the place look untidy, that just won't do at all:D

me personaly, i would have no problem with people fishing as long as the area was tidy and the people were not being rowdy.

no body mentioned any rubbish being left about and hooks etc. That is totally iresonsible and is a different story then.
I always leave a fishing mark the way if found it (sometimes clean up if its a SH*T hole) same as the majority of the people on here.

but if the sign has been put up with regards to the mess then thats fine.

but if someone is putting it up just because they dont like to look down from their apartment and see someone fishing, thats not fair. its the same as self policing.
we cant just say 'you cant do this and cant do that' because a certain person dosnt want you there.
There are laws for a reason.

Why do i need to be careful what i say???

Im not doing any harm to anybody.

If the signs are up for a valid reason and backed by law or a governing body, then fair do to the signs.
If they are not, then they are worth just as much as the paper i wipe my hoop with.

I cant go down to the main road and stop people speeding and give them a ticket just because i saw them speeding, same principles in my opinion.

been along today and those signs atre the same as was posted there just before the x mas, they are put there by some of the residents,i actually tiled a bathroom for a couple there and they were talking about the mess being left,i didnt mention i was a fisherman,so just listened and the whole saga reverberates around 1 thing,MESS. and i got to agree with the residents on that score,if ya take stuff with you, take it home with you or put in in 1 of the near by bins,it aint hard work

The tossers that leave all there **** behind are not proper anglers, these are the type of tossers go night fishing with all their lager cans, and are no better than louts, these poeple have no respect for residents and their property and give the rest of us a bad reputation.

If i had worked hard and bought the type of property mentioned then i to would be ****ed off with the low life scum making a noise and leaving the place a mess, it would down value the area, how would the scum feel if we done that to them and invaded their privacy.

Now before anyone takes this the wrong way, i have no problem with anglers all night fishing and having a few cans ( not that i would ever do it ), but be considerate thats all we ask.

A few years ago i remember a story from tynemouth pier ( it made the news ), about mr scum leaving a baited trace on the ground after he finished fishing, unfortunatley this was swallowed by a guide dog, fortunatly some decent folk where there to help the poor dog and his owner....that was a ****ing disgrace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the summer i do quite a bit of fishing in south west scotland, unfortunatly so does mr scum and his family....it is appauling to see the **** thats left by them...unfortunatly a lot of it is from mr tyneside scum ( due to the amount of packets with billy tackle or i.d tackle on them ), up there on this **** with his pals, his fishing is secondary.

Will get off my soapbox now!!!!

it would be so much easier to have a sign saying please use the bins near by to dispose of any rubbish.

i totally agree with the 'you brought it here so take it away' phrase.

as for the leaving hooks and traces about, the guys should be hung with said traces by the balls. That really is a joke!

used bait can be tossed into the river, anything else just needs to go in a placky bag and dumped in the nearest bin, it dosnt mean you have to take it home with you.

there is always a small minority that spoil it for the rest of us.

Agree With you totally boblydon, But unfortunatly it is some of the so called proper anglers that leave their mess lying around, i have seen some of the well known anglers throwing litter and old line away (Won't mention who). Why cant every one just take a bag with them and dispose of their rubbish in the bin. The last time i fished the mull of galloway there was all kinds if sh*t wedged in the rocks from so called anglers.

TIP:- all you anglers with the Betta type seat box will find the small oblong sections moulded in the lid make great storage for plastic bags for all your Rubbish!

"Leave only footprints"

same here we fished st abbs head and there was loads of crap of other anglers left lying about
we also fish shields walkway and you see the same problem there also

its just a case of take ya crap home with u or put it in the bin

i have a bait bucket and just chuck all my sh*te in that and then dump it in a bin. 9 times out of 10 there is a bin on the way back to the car :)

I agree with all the messages about simply being a good neighbour and not leaving the place a mess.
But my daughters mate lives with her boyfriend in that area and some of the other residents object to anglers simply as they feel it is not the "right thing" for their area.
So there will always be people who will object whatever .
Of course giving them reasons to canvass the port for a ban ain't the best idea.
