Swine dene: Warning

Hi Guys,

Dunno if the mods want to Sticky this thread but can I just warn you all, if you are intending to fish this area, that there has been a pretty substantial rock fall just South of the car parking area at Howick (where the wooden bollards are), just North of Submarine Hole.

I know some people call this area Swine Dene and have seen people fishing from the cliffs there myself (we actually call this area Salters Gate as Swine Dene is further North).

Between Swine Dene and the Car Parking area, there are two areas where there are pretty substantial, developing overhangs that could go at anytime and may be made worse if we have more wet weather and then heavy frosts.

After the incidents of past years, I'd rather not be digging anyone out as it's in our area!

STAY SAFE

i am fishing cullernose point sunday is that ok?

We didn't go as far north as Cullernose, so I would just say use the usual precautions you take when fishing rocks, cliffs etc.
As the area we tend to fish at Cullernose is of a different nature to the pathways and cliffs at Howick, I would assume that the sea state would be my only concern there

I think this is the one you mean. I noticed it in July.

As you say, heavy rain could cause more failures like this.

where is best to park for swine dene or howick always wanted to try some of the marks at night but would'nt know where to park and how to get to the marks, i've fished cullernose point plenty of times during daylight and seen the area but i tend to always park at craster and it seems a canny little walk surely there's other places closer to the area that i could park:question:

There is enough room for half a dozen cars where the wooden bollards are at Swinedene or alternatively on the left hand side as you pass this area is often where lads park up to fish Cullernose

Stay Safe!
