The news tonight

Did anyone see the local news tonight regarding the clarity of sea water and its suitability for bathers at some of the north east fishing hot spots including Seaton Sluce and Seaham due to the weather storm drains overflowing, farmers fields running off into the rivers and sewage outlets having run off into the rivers. Dose this mean that the fish we get from these hot spots will be inedible? The local councils should have a plan in place to stop this happening, it will damaged local communities by not having visitors, may stop some of us from fishing best spots, what are your thoughts on this news?

Some of the pasts best marks were next to sewage outlets so I've heard, I wouldn't really worry about it tbh mate, unless your after bathing on the beaches. :o

There used to be a mark in seaham called the s**t pipe for obvious reasons as it was a sewage outlet had some cracking fish from it and tasted no diffrent how ever I now have a hump on me back and a gammy eye Think ill get a claim in lol

Aye Deano...Where there's a drain, there's a claim.....:D

In its day rocky island was an excellent mark for codlings and coaly's due to the fish feeding on all the crap that come out the sewage pipe

The pipe was not only a sewage outlet but a waste outlet for a chemical factory until they extended it and added a pumping station, the water was always dark green except for a couple of weeks a year when the factory was on its annual holidays. Some of the codling you caught from there had a light green stain to their flesh from living and feeding there, i can't say i ever heard of anyone being bad after eating fish from the area.

Years ago the tyne was also full of sewage and industrial crap,it fished better for codling and coaly's than it dose today there was more bigger fish about as well

In all honestly lads I used to eat fish caught in the mersey and was never bad once. So if I can get away with it from there any fish caught here should be fine ;)

An old boy I was talking with not too long back used to go swimming in the Tyne years ago before it was cleaned up and they used to have to watch out for "brown eels" floating about.

Nice, I've caught a few flattie pads over the past couple of months from Tyne I'm surprised Tynemouth hasn't lost its status also lol
