Tope on the fly - its eventually happened

This comes from the Onyermarks Charter site - well done to all concerned. I know that Ian Burrett has always said it could be done,

" TOPE ON THE FLY - Both Onyer Marks and Onyer Marks Too boats have been taking good numbers of tope every day this week but there is no doubt the fish of the week and probably the fish of the year was a tope caught on the fly by Alex Wilkie. Alex has broken our mackerel and pollack fly records during the last two years and has made no doubt about his ambition to catch a tope on the fly and his patience was rewarded with a tope of 27 pounds. It is a brilliant catch but some of the credit must go to Matty who worked hard to get the fish feeding near the boat. I don't want to give the details as one of the angling monthlies is interested in doing a feature. Has anyone ever heard of tope on the fly before? We certainly haven't. "

that is some catch, no doubt the hardest part would of been getting the tope feeding on or near the surface in clear water. Wouldn't be surprised if it was right at the top of Luce Bay

never hear of tope but i heard of blue shark on fly .

I have been keeping tabbs on the reports from them as i am booked on two trips this month with them, they have been taken good numbers of tope of late with the best day taken 62 tope between 7 anglers.

When we went up we had them in 40ft of water so i guess some good chum chucking could get them up on the surface and then the skill would come in....trying to land the bloody thing on a fly rod as they go off like a rocket

We head over to our Clashwhannon caravan this friday for an extended stint so will be having a chinwag with Ian and Matty about that tope capture. Brilliant stuff.

top man ian iz he even left me the use of hes 4x4 last year to launch our boat while he went out
