Tribute to Mandela

good riddance to another dead terrorist

its funny how the media and anyone wanting a bit of cheap PR have forgotten that the guy went to jail for bombing public places, killing heaps of women and children, executing those he didn't like by tying them to a lamp post, putting a tyre round their necks, filling it with petrol and setting it alight.

At his trial, he had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilising terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Scores of innocent people, including women and children, were killed by Nelson Mandela’s MK terrorists in shopping centres and cinemas

Even amnesty international wouldn't touch him when he was locked up.

the man was a fecking terrorist by any definition of the word, right to the very end he refused to denounce the violence he was part of and never apologised for any of the lives he took

Mark, do you really believe that?
Do you think that the cause he was fighting for was not a just one, the end of apartheid?
Freedom fighter for me.

Respect your opinion Mark, there is no doubt about the fact he was a terrorist, but if there is such thing as redemption I think he got as close as it gets did he not?

Yes at one point in his life he was a terrorist - according to the oppressive and corrupt government that he opposed, I think that has to be taken into account also.
To a nation under racial oppression, he was a freedom fighter. Died a different man - 27 years in prison changed him. President Obama said it "His actions not only freed himself, but also his Jailor!" Many white South Africans are still in the mental jail of racialism. Mandela is a black man who changed the course of history right before our eyes. For those who support that oppressive corrupt white government in South Africa, and lived a life of luxury and privilege based on skin colour while 1000's of non-whites died in government incited township uprisings...forgive + be free?

Its a tough one and I agree that the media seem to turn a blind eye and jump on the band wagon, but I always like to think that everyone deserves a second chance....I think he did pretty well with his.

pik botha repeatedly offered him freedom if he would renounce violence - he refused

since his release he steadfastly refused to renounce the violence he committed, or apologise for it

to me that shows no redemption at all.

bombing a school? bombing a cinema? bombing shopping centres? 'executing' any one that crossed him by sticking a burning tyre round there necks?

oppressive regime or not, there can be no redemption for targeting women, children and innocent civilians. Look a little deeper into the oppression and corruption of the ANC since his release and its rise to power, and his background with the SACP.

freedom fighter? just like bin laden et al then?

no doubt he was the figure head for a lot of change, but not a single person in the media has got the balls to actually broadcast what he did - they'd rather propagate the 'wronged man' myth.

Lovely kind hearted Nelson

I wonder if the families of all those he killed, injured and tortured feel the same way. They will never have a voice so we will never know

Have had to bite my lip since he died so as not to inflame the masses (must be getting old) but I agree with Mark...if people took the time to read the other side of his story you'd maybe think differently about how great a man he was :exclam:

sorry, but a disagree, the bloke serverd 27 year's because he spoke up 4 his people. a never ever heard of the man been found guilty of any atrocitie's toward's mankind. he served his time , which he should'nt have searved.
to put him in the same frame as "talliban" i find discusting. but that's just me.

he wasn't found guilty - he pleaded guilty

he was the commander in chief of the armed wing of the ANC. He organised, chose targets and gave the orders (just like Osama). the number of dead following the attacks he ordered is many hundreds, possibly over a 1000, the true figure is not known

he was tried for 156 seperate attacks and he pleaded guilty to every single one - the guilty plea meant he dodged the death penalty

once released and in power you'd think his goal would be peace and spending to support 'his people' he spent many many billions on weaponry and munitions that was 'promised' to rebuild the slum townships where millions of 'his people' still leave in squalor - the money went on arms almost 40 billion dollars worth. Since Mandela took over, South Africa has become a Third World country. It went from being the safest country in Africa, to being the rape and murder capital of the world. In Johannesburg, 5,000 people are murdered every year. Unemployment went from 5% in 1994 to 50% today.

Two of the ANC’s biggest donors, right through to the late 90's, were Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of Libya and President Suharto of Indonesia

aafter his release he was filmed promoting the killing of whites and even sang a nice song about it in 2008! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcOXqFQw2hc

and what of the 3000 plus that were 'necklaced' a burning petrol filled tyre around the neck. he and winnie were fond of that one and no charges were ever brought - he was president when a the full picture of necklacing came out, - it quietly went away. strange huh?

since 1994 68000 whites have been tortured and murdered in south africa. Almost all uninvestigated

Nelson was a lot of thing - a latter day Ghandi the media want everyone to believe, he definitely is not

although I don't agree with ur" good riddance" comment mark ( a bit harsh haha) I agree with you 100% I said exactly the same thing to our lass, he was a terrorist, no different to the ira ( no surrender!) he might have done some good after his release from prison but he was no saint!
