I remember one sunday morning,around the 6am mark,when me n me pal
came off Tynemouth,as you got wrong off the 'pier gadgey',if you were on,
when he came on.
Just as we got to the top of the bank,there was a flatbed type truck
going past,with a film crew on the back.We looked at where they were
pointing the big camera,and lo and behold,there on the other side of the
road,striding along with his two henchmen,was....The Scunner Campbell!
I said to me pal,"looka,it's the scunna".Well,me pal knew what i was like,
and just about had time to splutter,"dinnet man,well get wrang",before i
shouted,"awreet scunnaaa".He stopped,turned and looked,(as did everyone
else),raised his hand,in a sort of embarrassed half wave,then turned and
walked on.
Was i made up or what,the scunner,who i thought was mint,had actually
acknowledged me! Me pal genuinely thought,we'd get arrested,for
interfering in such important goings on,but i didn't care,me and scunner
were acquaintances now!
