Tynemouth Beach

North crab hill is browns bay, south crab hill/ bears back is the north end of tynemouth beach

So it is my mistake lol been a long time since I've fished Tynemouth, can still remember the pipe though had some canny nights fishing just to the right of it both high and low water.

Nearly tracked it down - Sharpness Pumping Station was built at the start of 1985 so the pipes (2 at the north end of the beach) and the one at Sharpness would have been removed after that, possibly in '85 but maybe '86. God - 30 years - where has it gone. Thanks for your help Alan, answering my own questions now!!

am sure pipes were removed very early ninetys from Tynemouth and whitley beachs but could be wrong ,the beachs have changed a lot since been removed and the sand has sometimes crept up to cullercoats harbour, was like this last winter league when I went to fish slaty sand creeping towards harbour. davy.

Not sure about the early 90's but totally agree with Davey on the 90's I remember fishing next to the one north end of the beach during the sea league, a short lob 10/20 yds south of the pipe was always good for scratching out a coalie or eel

Davey, you might be right. I've just assumed that as soon as the by pass was in place they'd be removed. That might not have been the case.

Their is part of a pipe still their because I launch my kayak from the north ramp quite often and about 2 month ago me and my mate where looking at it not sure if its the same pipe like but didn't look the biggest and was only a metre showing if that

Different pipe Mitch. The ones they took out were about 5 feet square and made of concrete.

Haha the 1 a seen was only about 10 inch round mate

Only 10 inches round....ooh matron........but, seriously, if you can see the bottom of the pipe it implies that a lot of sand has washed away from the top of the tide (not necessarily good if you're fishing low tide) but good conditions for beachcombers or metal detectors.
