Always the same. Idiots fishing the pier in a Northerly.

The UK Coastguard paged the Brigade after a member of the public had contacted them stating that she could see a number of lights at the seaward end of the North Tyne Pier. At the time the weather conditions were poor with waves breaking over sections of the pier and heavy rain showers.

Brigade members arrived on scene and after assessing the situation and speaking with UK Coastguard and Port of Tyne sent a two man team onto the pier to investigate the source of the lights. Tynemouth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was requested and launched to provide safety cover for the pair. After using the tunnel that runs from halfway along the tunnel to the seaward end, Brigade members found two fishermen who were confirmed as being the source of the lights. Although the fishermen were unhurt and in a position of relative safety, they were asked, and agreed, to be escorted off the pier due to the weather conditions and the fact that they were trespassing as the pier had been closed by the Port earlier in the day. This was completed without incident and the men were then spoken to at length by officers from Northumbria Police. Once all persons were accounted for and off the pier all rescue units were stood down. Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team was also in attendance at this incident.

these people put lives at risk trying to help them.
the port of tyne should take them to court and they should be made to make a substantial donation to the RNLI. and the other units called out to help these idiots
this is not the first time and I am sure not the last until the port of tyne make an example of the offending anglers or spend some money to improve the security system of the gate so people can not gain access onto the pier.

my son, on Tynemouth lifeboat, wasn't amused

I was fishing Ollies match in the harbour on Saturday Alan and I watched 2 jet-skis go out. The users of which had no life jackets. I spoke with the lifeboat lads as I was coming off (after they had got them back in) and they were in a state of disbelief. Complete morons they are.

the mind boggles

Im not condoning what some idiots do to catch a few fish, but dont you thinkits overkill to send 2 lots of coastguards, ambulances, the lifeboat crew out, when theres a tunnel runs in the pier, couldnt they just send the two coastguards along it and get lads to come off like they did? Instead of making a major incident costing thousands out of it:rolleyes:

yes they could , but most cases the general public make a call thinking some one is trapped and they turn all emergency services that could be neeed , there was a case a few years back whena couple of lads were fishing camels island on a big sea, when some good samaritan rang the emergency serves and said some people were trapped on the island .they was not they were fishing over high water , and certain tides you have got to wait till tide ebbs to get off
and have done so myself on a biggish seea and had to wait till tide ebbs

and what would of happened if one or all four got washed off when they came out the tunnel you would be saying why wasn't the RNLI etc there, they are making sure the incident doesn't get any worse and why should two coastguard lads have to go along and bring them back, they shouldn't of been there

Lot of the general public are botherers and busybodies who like to interfere with whatever they can nowadays i find:mad:

Yes, damn those people for thinking they could have been saving lives!

If you trespass on private property and advertise the fact with a 5,000,000 candle power head torch, especially when waves are coming over the pier then you're asking for trouble.

Agree Alan they shouldn't have been on just my point why risk sending the rnli out when it could realistically have been sorted on the pier by coastguards who were already there .Just my opinion but a lot of it is political correctness these days

the tunnel entrance is not accessable to you get past the 4posts,and the waves were crashing over this quite long stretch, idiots have been back on all w/e. davy.

We all know you shouldn't be on there when the gate is locked but, there will always be the temptation to get on just to fish, so maybe the tunnel should be left unlocked just for the idiots who will go on in such bad conditions, but then they would probably pee and crap in there. Nah........... go with Donald Trump and build a large wall:D
