Walkway Surprise Catch and Hebburn Marina 02/05/14

I had a night/early morning session today fishing the whole of the flood from midnight until 6am. I was chasing species so I was using three rods cast at different distances and three baits - mackerel, bluey and ragworm.

I started at the Walkway and fished here for three hours up to mid-tide. There was loads of action here from the off catching tommies on the further out rods and lots and lots of coleys (lost count but at least 20) on the close in rod (varying from 0 to 15 feet from the side). I also caught a shore rockling and a surprise Pollack, first one I've ever seen in the river.

The wind started getting up strong and it was easterly so I decided to move to Hebburn marina where the grass bank would block off the wind and it would be handy for getting home afterwards. I fished through the sunrise it was a lovely morning without that wind. I caught the usual tommies and flounders but also managed a common eel for the species hunt which was nice :)

Canny session Mike. At least you managed to get an eel at Hebburn, I tried last week but all I got were tiny codling. Good luck at the weekend, but not too much as I'm hoping to add to my tally and go ahead in the species hunt.:)
