When do cod show?

When do the cod normally start showing from the shore? I don\'t mean the residential cod, imean the fresh run fish.
I\'m in the process of practising my casting, filling my bait freezer and making leads and rigs, so it would be nice to know how long i\'ve got.

Depends on sea conditions Geoff, I\'ve had fresh run fish on crab during a big sea in august.

Hi Geoof, just got in from the beach with the grandbairns. Normally get a good run of small codling 1-2lb from Whitley Bay Beach and Tynemouth around september, need a good sea running, i have always found that at this time of year lug quite often outfishes fresh crab.

I would have thought if they were that early they would want crab as there would be some straggler peelers still around at that point.
Just goes to show what I think and what the cod think are two diffrent things.

I have had a couple of great Septembers on Blyth beach but it is depending on the sea as Davy says.

The earliest cod I\'ve had is early August from Horden beach 2 yrs ago,on rag tipped with mackie

Regardless when it is go with lugworm not crab. Al\'s the main man.
