i remember paul fenech, aka sea angler mag doing an article about it a while back, couldnt tell you if its his claim to fame though.

I first saw this rig in the sea angler, and use it most ov the time now to great effect. a talked to rutherford about it and apparently, he showed p fenech the rig. so basically, he's takin credit for an idea that isnt his, cheeky T**t:D

Just saying wat a know/heard/seen. it an excellent rig n av had two ov me best codling to date using it because it fishes the bait hard to the bottom, where the cod are hoovering up everything that is edible. lets hope it fishes well for me match this weekend:yltype:;)

I have found over the years all these fancy rigs we use, were used donkey's years ago when rigs where made simply out of the line the angler was using through a series of knots, when all these bait shields, clips etc wheren't even heard of. I know a lot of the rigs i used where just a bit fancier than what my grandfather used, he never used swivels, booms, he could make a hook line stand off your main line with a couple of knots, just like everything else the materials and bits and bobs come along to make life easier.

Too true, but back then u cud fish at yor feet n get a six punder, where as now yor luky to get one that size. bak then distance wasnt a virtue, now yuo need to cast to find fish.

Take me next door neighbour for example, he's fished for 55 years, and used the simplest gear. since the fishing depleated, he's now got the expensive gear, which still doesnt make you catch any more fish. shame really. u pay good money n it doest make any difference:(

it just makes it easier for you not to catch them.

anyone got a diagram ?

If its the one I'm thinking about the snood line is clipped on the main rig body line - a bit like an advanced pulley rig.

I have fished them side by side pennel rigs fishing for cod and for some reason the pennel has always worked and the dropper has been rubbish.

Droper rigs

I can remember seeing this type of rig being used by a few of the lads who used to fish in john bohills comps on the Tyne years and years ago one of the first useing it was Paul Richardson and the late John Bradley useing bent bits of wire as there was no purpose made clips you could buy back then in order to make this rig
Now I'm not saying they invented it or anything as quite alot of people were useing the same or very similar versions of the rig back then and iv seen many variations of the same rig over the years
The one featured in sea angler useing all the off the shelf clips etc has been in use in the north east for years as many a matchman will tell you Andy Rutherford showed quite a few people his version of it as did Stevie Graham and Davie Raymond many many years ago
So who invented it Certainly not Sea Angler and to be honest I don't care who did but I would like to say thanks to all the people who have showed me there version of the rig over the years which I have copied and used hope this sheds some light on the situation
