Fished Dunstanburgh Castle today,my first outing in quite a while. We arrived this morning to find the rock jam packed with people fishing for mackrel,so we found a nice quiet patch of rock that was un-occupied and began fishing, all around us people were catching and keeping the mackrel fair enough thats fine if you put them to good use i.e eating or bait for the winter, but not for putting a whole one on your hook and casting it in to try and catch a seal yes he actually tried to catch a seal on his rod a seal did go for the bait but luckily enough the seal bit the mackrel in two and left the head still attached to the hook,he then even cast it back out to try again! Then to top it all off when everyone had finished and packed up and left we decided to move further up the rock to our disgust, the rocks were littered with empty packets of daylights not one but around a dozen, a big birds nest of line left there and the remains of mackrel guts all over the place,i felt i had to pick there rubbish up before i left as i couldn't leave it that way,all in all i enjoyed my days fishing but what was happening around me put a dampner on the day.
By the way i didn't catch at all,my mate managed 1 mackrel.

unlucky mate ,but welldone on the clear up,cos it may spoil the venue for others if all gets out of hand with the mess like piers etc

but why shud you have to ,common sense take your mess with you

Unfortunately these people surface every year Charlie, some of them even fish all year round. Just have a look at the posts about the piers being such a mess, once again it doesn't show us in a very good light. :casstet::casstet:

I have been up that way twice recently but don't fish that mark for that reason.

Jim.

you find that this time of year all the mackeral wallers come out of the woodwork but when the weather kicks in its the true fisherman that stay out
scotty

just fished blyth peir from 3 am untill 6.30 and found loads of young chavs kicking mackeral and pulling there heads off also not once did they trow any back people like this need to be stopped from fishing as its spoiling the sport for every good angler out there

thats why we call them numpties. but its not just them blyth pier itself is a sh*t hole rubbish and birdsnest everywhere.

its everywhere now, its not just the piers in the summer, although this is probably the most noticable. i was piking on auchenreoch last year, now the swim i was fishing is probably the most accessable swim you can imagine, you park in a layby and fish less than 15 yards from the car. right next to where you park there are wheelie bins provided for rubbish, and yet i found the swim full of anglers rubbish and mutilated pike. i filled THREE black bags of rubbish. theres scumbags everywhere.
i was thinking another organised clean up by us on roker or shields pier could be in order, but unfortunatly i think it may be couter productive by raising awareness of the problem to people who have the power to close piers etc. what is really needed is the genuine anglers to take a zero tollerance attitude to the charvas / numpties call them what you will dropping their litter cans etc by challenging them. not easy if your on your own and there half a dozen p*** heads. what we need to do is have a word with a dozen or so genuine blokes before hand and all challenge unacceptable behaviour together. instead of moaning and bitching about it lets take a pro active approach, the same conversation comes up year in year out but the problem persists, lets do something positive and reclaim the piers etc from the tw**s.
rant over..............

well done for cleaning up charlie, ive done the same myself up that way an numerous ocasions. if idiots like you mentioned keep on doing that the national trust will not let anyone through the castle and close it completley to angles. i have been up there before and found loads of empty cans and litter all over the place. it makes the countryside look horrible and not to mention the harm it can do for the wildlife. at this point i would say bring licencing in but it would not make any difarence as with river fishing you would still get the ones who say F*** IT and still fish regardless.

cheers

when u turn up at a venue and the rubbish is already there there is'nt a lot u can do apart from pick it up and dispose of it properly. but how many times especially on the piers do we see cans been thrown down, line discarded, daylight packets dropped etc then say nothing to them but complain later. we need to take action not just sit back and let it happen, if the genuine lads band together they'll soon get the message.

Its not just the peirs and the rocks. many boat anglers have the policy that the sea is a dustbin that will get rid of empty rig packets. It has been a refreshing change for me recent to have been fishing on a boat who provides a bin bag and makes sure everyone uses it for litter and then he disposes of it accordingly. It would be nice to see more charter skippers do the same.

Many coarse angling clubs have a rule whereby an angler can not weigh in if there is litter in his peg regardless of who's it is. Unfortunately its an unworkable system for sea matches but it does highlight the awareness of the coarse guys as to the problems associated with landlords cancelling leases and denying access through litter problems.

lets hope it doesn't happen on our piers as a result of a few numpties.

Cheers
dave.

Last tuesday, my wife and I took a walk along Sunderland pier, and there must have been about a dozen lads fishing for mackerel. there was not a lot of mess, just a few hokkai packets and a bit line. As we came off the pier there were two sunderland council lads with pick up sticks and black bags going on to clean up. correct me if i am wrong, but south shields pier is a public place, and be cleaned up by south tyneside council. Yes we all have a part to play in the grand scheme of things, but if the pier was treated / and managed as a public amenity with more control by the local authorities, with tourism in mind , then it could be a mutch better place.

discrace, the mess they leave,i took 6 mackerel today which i was happy enough with ,left for the barrier for a spot of quiet float fishing and bait fishing on bottom, went to second steps to fillet and clean fillets ,even down the steps was mackerel guts etc ,pure laziness the water is reet next to them, anyway i caught nothing else ,heard youngins coming off arguing who had the most lmfao

It boils me as Dunstanburgh is on my doorstep as well as many of the other so called 'top marks' in the North East. I'm not being picky here, but the majority of these 'Plums' come from the cities and just use the countryside as their **** bins.
Friday night I was called out with the Coastguard to the Sugar Sands. When we got there, at the south end of the bay towards sandylands burn, here is a camper van stuck up to it's axle in the sand, apparently stuck there since 7am in the morning. The tide was on it's way in, they'd called out a tow truck to get them out, but they refused to go on the beach as they'd get stuck. Apparently members of the public had offered assistance and been given a load of verbal. The occupants had been drinking for britain and had made some lovely circular patterns in the sand before becoming stuck. Fortunately for them we managed to get one of the local farmers to tow them back up to the slip. Crazy!
As I've said in a previous post come the winter, when the clubs from down country hold their 'Opens' I wish they would stipulate that any egg leaving their detritus or any dead undersize fish would be disqualified from entering subsequent competitions instead of just relying on the charity of local scout and brownie groups to collect it!
Rant Over!
